Jamie Bestwick has made history again today by claiming a record seventh-straight gold in BMX Vert at X Games Foz do Iguacu and taking the lead for the most consecutive X Games gold medals of all time. An undeniable force on the vert ramp, he dominated the finals by beating his closest competitor,
Coco Zurita by nine points to make for a very convincing win.
Besides today’s gold being
Bestwick’s incredible seventh straight, it’s the British rider’s 11th career gold and his 13th overall. He’s also now in the lead for the most consecutive X Games gold medals of all time.
“Seven medals in a row is no small feat, but when you're inspired by the beauty of Foz do Iguacu, the insane Brazilian fans and with the X Games being globalized on one of the biggest platforms in the world, how can you not rise to the challenge and bring home gold for Monster Energy,” said
Bestwick.
Bestwick dominated from the start and there was no doubt that the reigning king of XGames BMX Vert would prevail. His scores of 47 and 44, total of 91 were the two highest of the event and bettered the rest of the field by a significant margin. Included in his first run were tricks with lots of amplitude, including a massive alley oop downside tailwhip and candy bar and continued throughou
t to dominate and make his mark in action sports history.
Unfortunately, teammate
Vince Byron, who could have been a threat, broke his handlebars and only took two runs, settling for fourth. Byron did land a double tailwhip 540 in his first run, a rarely seen BMX Vert trick.
