With the official start of Mongoose Jam tomorrow, sixteen Woodward East campers competed in an amateur park contest to place for one of the six spots on a Mongoose Jam team. Woodward East Lot 8 was filled with action sports campers rooting on riders as the top U-17 campers went head to head. The group was split into three heats - five in the first two heats and six in the third heat. The competition started with each rider getting one minute for an individual run. After all sixteen riders took their turn, each heat hit the park lot for a five
minute jam session to further show their skills.
All sixteen riders showed insane skill in the park contest, but in the end six riders earned the spot to compete with the pros in the Mongoose Jam.
Matt Ray, Ben Kavanaugh, Calvin Ibanez, Jamie Cooper-Ellis, Colton Walker, and
David Lee will be riding with their team captains tomorrow in the Pro Dirt contest. Crazy skills were shown in Camper Jam as
Kavanaugh, the youngest rider, threw a cannonball and
Lee nailed a double tail whip and high air bar spin.
Walker finalized his spot on a team when he nailed a no handed back flip, 3 whip to bar, and downside whip in his one-minute spot.
Cooper-Ellis took a spot with an incredible tuck no hander to barspin, tire grabs, and tailwhips.
After the judges picked the six winners, campers participated in a blind draw to find their team. The Mongoose Jam kicks off tomorrow with a Dirt Contest at Pro Dirt from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. EST.
