Sosh Urban Motion is a unique event in the world of extreme sports. For its 3rd edition, six international pro teams and the team that wins an Internet challenge will compete against each other in the streets of Paris from 5 to 11 of July. Each team will comprise one BMX rider and one film-maker. During the week, all 7 teams will produce a film, 3 to 4 minutes long, shot exclusively with a smartphone. At the end of the week, the best video will be selected by a jury of BMX professionals.
Web users will select the best individual rider and the best film-maker. In 2013, the videos produced during the Sosh Urban Motion event were viewed more than 300,000 times.
THE “WILDCARD” COMPETITION IS NOW OPEN! SOSH URBAN MOTION has two stages. The first, Internet-based, stage will run from 20 May to 25 June (ridesessions.com/sum2014/) with the aim being to find the best rider+film-maker pair who will receive a wildcard entry to the 2nd stage of the event: the pro contest (5 to 11 July).
To enter the wildcard competition, simply put together a sequence of killer tricks shot in unusual and/or interesting locations, and then post the video on the website. For this first stage, you can use a smartphone or any other equipment. A combination of a jury and the website’s users will select the winning video based on the quality of the filming and on the rider’s skills. The winning pair will be announced on 26 June 2014.
So, to enter the wildcard competition: • Create a film-maker+rider team,
• Shoot your clips on location, and then edit a film lasting not less than 1’30 using the music suggested on ridesessions.com,
• Upload the clip to dailymotion.com/contest/soshurbanmotion3
• Share your video!
Every year, SOSH URBAN MOTION gets bigger and better – and has now developed an international dimension, promoted by some of the best American and French riders, such as
Brian Kachinsky from Chicago and the Californian
Rob Wise. The French contingent will include the young prodigy,
Anthony Perrin, filmed by
Alexandre Valentino – who rode during previous editions of the event but who is increasingly found on the other side of the lens.
The 6 pro teams will be announced at the same time as the wildcard team, on 26 June. From 5 to 11 July, the 14 competitors will gather in Paris for a full week of riding through the streets of the capital; culminating in the production of a film lasting 3 to 4 minutes and shot exclusively on a smartphone. Every evening they will get together in a large apartment, where the programme of evening entertainments promises to be as intense as the day job!
On 11 July, on the last day of the event, the videos produced by the teams will be judged by 5 high-profile personalities from the world of BMX. First up, the winner of the 1st edition of Sosh Urban Motion:
Maxime Charveron, one of the most gifted and multi-skilled riders of his generation. Alongside him will be another talent discovered during the 2013 event:
Alaric Streff, who has become a big name on the French scene. A critical filming eye will be provided by one of the most respected film makers in the world of BMX: the Englishman
Matty Lambert together with
Pierre Mercier, recently made chief editor of Soul Magazine. The bowl legend
David Lombard will complete this discerning jury. 5,000 euros will be shared by the various winners.
The 7 films will be viewed and the winners selected by the jury during the grand closing evening on 11 July in Paris (location to be announced in mid-June). To reflect the event’s increasing popularity, this evening will be attended by 200 people, including those who regularly visit ridesessions.com. An exhibition of the best photos taken during the week will be presented, and then a DJ will take charge for the rest of the night.
