“America is going to be blown away by James’ and Jed’s skill, courage and determination. These are two unbelievable athletes, attempting to accomplish something that most experts have said cannot be done,” said Michael Porra, Nitro Circus CEO and creative director. “This goes beyond action sports. James and Jed are laying everything on the line and overcoming their fears to try to accomplish something that’s only been dreamed about before. This is a compelling testament to human endeavor that everyone can relate to.”
In 2011, Jed “The Warrior” Mildon made history when he landed the first-ever triple backflip on a BMX bike. Nearly five years later, James Foster is the only other athlete regularly attempting the trick, which is a highlight of Nitro Circus Live’s touring show. Revolution Day: The Chase for the Biggest Trick in Action Sports History will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how Foster and Mildon individually prepared to attempt the record breaking quadruple backflip and do something that has never been accomplished before.
“With the quad, everything -- from the height needed to make the necessary rotations, to the speed required to complete them -- has to happen within split seconds in order to have a shot at landing safely,” said Foster.
“This is the first time that a quad flip has been attempted on anything with wheels, so it’s incredibly difficult and the stakes are that much higher,” said Mildon.
The excitement of the competition is magnified further as Foster and Mildon attempt the feat at the exact same time, on opposite ends of the globe. Foster attempts the trick from Travis Pastrana’s Pastranland complex outside Annapolis, Md., and Mildon makes his run from Taupo, New Zealand.
As was previously announced, NBC Sports Ventures, a division of NBC Sports Group, and Nitro Circus formed a multi-year partnership in June. Revolution Day is the first all-new production to air as part of the agreement. In addition to television specials on NBC and NBCSN, the partnership will also include the debut of Nitro Circus: Crazy Train, an eight-part reality series debuting October, 15 on NBCSN.
