The idea of the Red Bull Dirt Pipe contest is to create the world's first dirt half pipe for BMX, creating a 120m long half pipe, similar to a snowboard half pipe in shape and size, made from dirt.

The pipe will have an in-run and be cut into a sloped hill to ensure riders maintain good speed. This will allow riders to concentrate on big, dynamic, tricks, while adding in some kickers to spice the runs up.

The aim of the event is to push BMX to the next level here in Australia and around the world, successfully impacting the scene and wider audience. Red Bull Dirt Pipe will see Australia's best athletes invited to session the setup plus internationally invited Red Bull athletes who will contribute to making the setup the best it can.

Summer 08, specifically February, has been ear-marked as the best possible time to take advantage of Australia's top athletes being back from their International competition in the US and Canada. This is also a good time with weather. The project will focus on producing the highest level of riding in a relaxed environment, adjusting & tweaking the half pipe to the optimal riding environment.

So the schedule will be flexible across the 5 days of riding and timed throughout the days, to produce the highest quality of imagery - both moving & stills. The Athlete list is still TBD but expect Corey Bohan and all the top Aussies to be there with a solid list of international pros.
