The Drug Aware Groundswell Festival at Scarborough Beach in Western Australia has grown steadily into a fantastic event over the past few years. A vital inclusion last year was the BMX bowl battle competition delivered last year by Freestyle Now, the world's longest running action sports enterprise based right here in Western Australia. “With Australia’s Logan Martin’s recent BMX Park Gold Medal win at the Tokyo Olympics, competitions such as this are critical to nurturing our next generation of BMX riders”, said Shaun Jarvis, BMX stunt show rider and owner of Freestyle Now.
The skatepark bowl at Scarborough is the largest in Western Australia and is a world-class venue. For 2021 Zambrero has stepped in as a major sponsor of the BMX competition delivering a fun new twist on the competition with the name now the “Zambrero BMX bowl battle”. It sounds like a great challenge for photographers to get a BMX rider flying out of a “burrito” bowl!
Other supporters of the Zambrero BMX bowl battle include Colony BMX, Division Brand, Cult Crew, Sneaky Wholefoods, Local BMX.
“Competitors can enter pro, open, intermediate or the beginners class. Thanks to Zambrero’s,
the pro prize purse will be a share of $2000, with prizes available to all other classes thanks to the other sponsors.” Said Shaun Jarvis. The Zambrero BMX bowl battle will also be round two of the Western Australian BMX freestyle State Championships with all points going towards the year-end state championship title.
“Look, this is going to be an epic event both for the riders and spectators. When you see these riders flying out of the bowl, flaring and backflipping, it makes your jaw drop and your heart race. BMX is a sport that involves fresh air, sunshine, creativity, bravery and friendship – it gives people purpose, energy and a drive to be fit and healthy – in line with Drug Aware’s messages, you can’t be a great rider and use substances.” Said Coach and Rider Shaun Jarvis.
The Zambrero BMX bowl battle is part of the Drug Aware Groundswell Festival, taking place in Scarborough 1-3 October, 2021
