Rock’n’Roll always sounds easy and smells like cigarettes and alcohol, like the big wide world, rebellion... But it certainly has nothing to do with sweet fairies stories. Well, until the Swedish band Sugarplum Fairy appeared on the rock scene. Born in a middle-sized hicktown in the middle of Sweden where life is not as exciting as you would love it to be, a band formed around the brothers Carl and Victor Norén, age 14, but already all Sixites, Beatles and leather jacket fans. With their debut “Young and Armed“ they gained their first success. Real and straight rock songs transfered what the big boys wanted to get rid of: the annoying medio-crazyness. After their second successful album (“First Round, First Minute“, 2006) they rocked at all the big festivals in 2007 and went to Malaga afterwards to work on their third album. Labelled with the promising name “The Wild One“ it’s packed with new, great songs like “The Escapologist“ or “Never Thought I'd Say That It's Alright“. Next to The Offspring and another band, Sugarplum Fairy will show why they have already achieved legendary status when it comes to performing live and loud.
Besides the three live concerts there will be the world’s best skateboarders and BMXers performing at the Street Session. Newly confirmed riders in BMX street are Summer Session 2007 winner Ben Wallace and vice winner Ben Hennon (both UK), 15-year-old prodigy Bruno Hoffmann, vice German champ in 2008, third-placed Björn Mager (GER) and last but noth least Australian Ryan Guettler who placed second at the Dirt Session 2008.
The BMX halfpipe event is happy to host new entries like the current German champ Benjamin Kopp (GER) and Jan Valenta (CZ). Furthermore there will be Shaun Eglington (UK) who placed 12th at the BMX Masters, Jay Eggleston (USA) who placed 9th at the X-Games, German Tim Eichert who placed 3rd at the German championships, Brit Zach Shaw who placed 4th at last year’s Street Session and American John Parker, also from the US, who placed 9th at the AST Dew Tour Standings 2008.
Since September 27th it is clear who the qualifiers for BMX Street are. BMX-wise it’s Sergej Geier, Mark König, Michi Sieren and T-Mobile Wildcard winner Sebastian Baumelt.
