closest to the crank arm. Inability to properly spread the stress concentrated in this area causes the axels of many fine pedals to fail. A common solution to address axle bearing failure is to use larger, more durable bearings, but in doing so, the pedal body is made taller to accommodate the larger bearings. The D-Spyder keeps its low body profile, only 20mm tall, by using smaller diameter bearings, but with an additional bearing strategically placed to spread stress where it’s most concentrated. The smoothness of the pedal spin is a testament to how well the extra bearing helps to spread the stress around its axel. D-Spyder’s TRPL3 Bearings are laid out as such:
#3 bearing is added to accommodate much larger amount of lateral force compared to conventional pedal axels which typically have just #1 and #2 bearings. While two bearings are adequate for general riding, it’s not enough for advanced riders who place higher demands on their pedals. The D-Spyder pedal is for advanced riders looking for low profile pedals that can keep up with their riding style.
