now going to happen on 3 May next. Put that one on your calendar right now. Another day of playing in the dirt with the boys. BMX is non stop, keeps us busy, keeps us sane. I'll see you around. Here's this week's BMX news for you:
-Ryan Nyquist is giving back to the sport by putting on a pro BMX event in San Jose. The $ 15,000 USD prize purse will attract riders from outside too. Looks like it's going to be a rhythm section of wooden ramps. Hit the FATBMX event Calendar for all info.
-Pulled it off again, daily FAT FAVORITES. This week on FATBMX:
-Steve DeBusk
-Lima
-Alex Valentino
-Bengo
-Billy Stupple
-Ben Lewis
-Andy Barton
-Rikki Gunner
Coming up are: Ryan Quinones, Peter Adams, Tom Forster, Owain Clegg, Brandon Dosch (need pics dude), Will Jackson and James Cox. At the end of the year these will form a good overview of what the pros like.
-You probably read about Alan Foster's bad crash at Sheep Hills. He hung up and did a scorpion style crash on his head. Broke some ribs and some vertebrea. He was operated upon this week and can move all limbs. He's swollen, hurting and stiff and wearing some braces for a while until he is back to his old self. Easier said than done. Get well Alan!
-The Helm Jam is definitely on. 3 May 2009 at the Helm Trails in Helmond. Little kids BMX race on the pump track (loose style) and a good session on the bigger jumps right next to the mini track. Some prizes will be handed out between 3-4 during the session when things count. The trails are open weekdays from 17:00hr - 19:00hr but leading up to the jam someone will be there probably all of the time. To make sure that is the case, call Mike: +31.612661027.
-Mike Spinner has been on a Euro trip. From London to Paris with the Nike crew. He mentioned that a new bike deal is in the works.
DJ is a big help again this week with the news. Here's his contribution:
OK what do I have this week? Harry Main is back in the UK after an extended stay in the USA where he got himself a very respectable 7th place at the HoMo Pro contest, hung out with the happy campers @ Woodward & stayed in Greenville shredding with the big dogs. Harry will be back in the USA soon to try his luck on the Jew Tour & try & bag an X-Gaymes spot.
Haro's BMX brand manager Tony D has parted ways with the company after several years there... what for Haro now? After the departure of Ronnie Remo from UnKnown Bike Co due to fact that the company would not give him what he needed to help the team riders now star rider Mark Webb has officially quit UnKown as well. Mark called me to say & said the following: "I've quit UnKnown Bike Co. because they haven't paid me for months & the owner is a dinlow!" For those of you not from Southsea the word Dinlow is local slang for a stronger term rhyming with Anchor. It should be noted that the "owner" is not Darren Block, he is the designer & brains behind the operation as such. Darren is a nice guy with a lot of great ideas & is for the riders but he has also left the company after he too realised the owner was indeed a "Dinlow"!! Bizarre.
Liverpool's Zack Williams is on Hoffman Bikes. Old news but Dave Mirra is now riding brakeless.. now I've heard a lot of people bitching about this on various forums where people generally hate everything but picture Dave doing 8ft whip flairs & think how bonkers that is brakeless! How good will it be at X-Gaymes Mega Ramp this year!??
Chris "The Wolf" Job got married last weekend & is currently honeymooning it in Barcelona with his new bride Gaynor. For those of you who arent familiar with Chris he's the extremely hairy ginger guy losing his marbles at every Cologne contest! Speaking of Cologne, I hear the HoMo Pro winner Josh Perry is planning on making the trip over to ride this years Worlds contest @ the Judgenpark along with the full Rockstar US Pro team! This years Worlds is the first since Prague 2005 & is also the 25th Anniversary of BMX events at the venue so expect some real treats this year! Keep a check on www.bmxworlds.de for all the latest info.
Zach Shaw slid out on the huge Vert ramp at Corby & dislocated his shoulder. This leaves him much more time to find a logic board & fix my ibook before he fixes Remo's old G4 too! Sam "I know Bart from fatbmx" Wise has been working on a Mike Miller video which is due to "drop" at the end of the month. Mr Lowcash Frank LuKas sent me a text message with this: "Deepbmx camera got stolen in Monaco. Not only that but the beer is 12 euro's there, it sucks. Let the rich cu*ts break their ankles with their fucking high heels!" Nice touch Franky!
Scott Hamlin has moved from the party capital of England, Weston-Super-Bare down to Basingstoke & is living with BSD team rider Sean Laferty. He has also made moves in the career world by leaving his job at Halfords & is now a DEPUTY MANAGER at a shop called Past Times! Peep Hamlin at this years FISE event, he'll amuse you.
Right I'm off to Duisburg, Germany to meet up with Bart & Paul, eat some BBQ, drink some booze & watch some BMX @ the T-Mobile Extreme Dirt Session which you can check out live on freecaster.tv With Guettler, Canina, Bohan, Nyquist etc all on the list it's going to be a good event. But before I go check this link to an ebay auction for a BMX in Australia, damn Aussies are good at everything! EBAY!
Thanks DJ!

-Talking about the weather is tough, especially when people live all over the place. This last week has been more than decent over here (Netherlands) but I've heard people complain for the shite weather. One rider who deserves to complain is Alejandro Caro over in Colombia. Check out the photo of these trails! They're 20 meters from a river but it rained so much that you could go lakejumping on the actual dirt spot. It will be back to work as soon as the water has disappeared. Digging trails, the endless job. Beats going to the gym though. Same result, but better.
-The Vans Let It Ride comp will take place in Kortrijk on 6 - 6 - 2009. Limited entries are available for this €10,000.= comp. To make sure you get a spot, qualify at this pre-event brought to you by Crank BMX.
-Anthony Sewell RIP
-Rick Thorne has a new signature shoe out at Vans. Uhh, we mean Draven. Want to Join Rick's Monster Army?
-Yesterday the American Nike 6.0 crew together with some European riders cruised the city of Paris for upcoming features in DIG and some other mags. Just cruising you know.
-United have gone Australia. Check their website for updates from the road. New video in the works.
-We had heard about this photo for a long time but when I ran into it I still had to laugh. It's Brian Blyther in his cop uniform riding a skateboard-only park next to his station in Montclair, California. Brian got in big trouble because of it and we don't want to stir things up here but the photo was too good to pass up.
-New Harry Main web video is online now. Amazing.
Sounds like BMX is continuing like there's nothing wrong. Crisis? What's that? What more do you need than a waterbottle, a bike, a parking lot/local ramp/bank or a shovel to be happy? Enjoy the day, ride BMX.
