In the current context of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which also affects Japan, cycling’s governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), must announce that the Tokyo 2020 test events for BMX Freestyle and track cycling scheduled for 11 and 12 April, respectively in Tokyo and Izu, will not be held as originally planned. In view of the current health situation, holding the events would potentially put at risk the health of the riders, all those involved in the event and the fans, and compromise an equal treatment for all nations.
The UCI and Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee will work together on new dates depending of course on the decisions taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the Tokyo 2020 Olympic
UCI decisions concerning cycling disciplines, other than road, faced with the coronavirus. Fourty-eight hours after announcing the main principles that will shape the revision of the UCI International Road Calendar in view of the resumption of the 2020 season in the context of the coronavirus, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) today announces the framework for the other disciplines. Faced with the continued spread of the virus, notably in Europe, and in the context of restrictive measures adopted by a number of countries banning gatherings and movement of people, the UCI underlines that as world cycling’s governing body, it puts absolute priority on the security of athletes and all people present at events on the UCI International Calendar.
Following the decision of the Hiroshima Prefecture in relation to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) must announce that the opening round of the UCI BMX Freestyle and Flatland World Cup, part of the 2020 FISE World Series, in Hiroshima, Japan – initially scheduled from 3 to 5 April – has to be postponed. The UCI fully supports the decision taken by the Japanese authorities and reiterates that its primary concern across all its disciplines and events remains the safety of athletes, teams and all parties involved.
The new date of the competitions will be announced later in consultation with the Japanese authorities and the series organiser Hurricane.

Based on the assessment made by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of the current situation related to the COVID-19 epidemic, and the restrictive measures taken by a number of countries within Europe and beyond prohibiting, in particular, gatherings and movement of people, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) today announces a series of decisive measures with the aim of ensuring the maximum protection of health of all those involved in cycling events and sporting equity between participants. Not wishing to contribute to the spread of the virus and with the aim of ensuring sporting equity in its competitions, the UCI, after several crisis meetings held at the end of last week and over the weekend, has taken the following measures:
The safety of athletes being a priority mission of the UCI, organisers are expressly requested to cancel any cycling event on the UCI International Calendar in territories identified at risk by the WHO;
Suspension of all classifications for all events on the UCI International Calendar, across all disciplines, from 15 March 2020 and until further notice but at least until 3 April 2020. By freezing the points during the period indicated, the UCI is preserving sporting equity for the athletes;
With regard to the qualification procedure for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games,
After careful consideration and a thorough review of the Coronavirus COVID-19 situation, we have decided to reschedule FISE World Series Hiroshima. The event was due to take place on 3rd – 5th April and to feature several World Cup and World Championship competitions, which are listed below. In consultation with the International Federations involved, it will now take place at a later date to be announced.
