Seeking to find the best amateur skaters and BMX riders across the country this summer, the Gatorade Free Flow Tour announced today the complete schedule for the 2009 season. The BMX portion of the Tour officially kicks off May 24 in Lakewood, N.J. at the Incline Club, and registration for all events is now open at gatoradefreeflowtour.com. The 2009 Gatorade Free Flow Tour will include a total of 20 BMX competitions (four BMX vert and 16 BMX park) at 16 parks across the United States. The winners in each of the 20 BMX competitions will be flown to the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, taking place at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, September 17-20. Encompassing the “Flow to Pro” theme that is the cornerstone of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour, the two overall BMX park and vert champions earn a spot to compete against the pros at the final stop of the Dew Tour, the PlayStation® Pro in Orlando, Fla., October 15-18.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural international event, Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports holds its second annual China Invitational, May 8-10 at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium, an Olympic venue from the 2008 Beijing Games. Americans can watch the event for the first time with 1.5 hours of national, NBC television coverage on Sunday, June 14. The 2009 China Invitational features the skate park and vert competitions that took place during the inaugural event along with the addition of a BMX vert contest. The top professional action sports athletes from around the world will again be competing in the China Invitational, including ‘08 skateboard vert China Invitational winner and Dew Cup champion Pierre-Luc Gagnon and four-time BMX vert Dew Cup champion Jamie Bestwick.
