GT Bicycles today announced a new collaboration. After a 17-year hiatus, BMX Hall of Famer Dave Voelker has teamed up with GT Bicycles once again. To celebrate the reunion, GT is releasing a special edition Dayglo Orange ’87 Dyno Pro Compe, inspired by the year Voelker turned pro for GT/Dyno. The new Dyno Pro Compe has been beefed up from the original with a 100% chromoly frame and fork, and the wheels have been super-sized to 29” with GT’s all-new Smoothie tires in a stout 29 x 2.5.
“No more ‘butter forks’,” says Dave. “That’s what I used to call them. They were like butter; they’d flex all over the place, and we would have to straighten them out. When it came to the wheels, it was important to add bigger tires because it’s like adding suspension. And, as you get older, you want to have a little bit of cush as you’re landing.”
The new ’87 Dyno Pro Compe also comes equipped with an updated version of the iconic ‘Pretzel’ Bar.

Advanced Sports joined Comcast NBCUniversal and other hometown donors this week to give 105 bicycles to the children of first responders and members of the military. The donation was organized by Philly POPS for its Christmas in July celebration at Philadelphia’s Comcast Center. The children received Fuji, SE and Tuesday bikes as part of Advanced Sports’ continued advocacy of cycling and for bringing more kids into the sport.
“One of the reasons we are so happy to be here today is because of the importance of cycling in the life of children, and in our community. We all know well that riding a bike brings us a feeling of joy, and each and every child deserves to experience that emotion,” said Milay Galvez, Advanced Sports’ manager of commercial sales and sponsorship.

Kicking off the exciting programming for the largest action sports festival in the world, the Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California, the celebrated Vans Rebel Jam BMX street competition will debut for the first time on American soil July 27-28. Slated for an international roster of BMX medalists and style experts, the Rebel Jam will feature Best Trick contests, creativity awards, a Bunny Hop and High Air comp, and contest honors inclusive of men and women in all award categories. This year’s custom-designed obstacles will be presented by respected BMX brand, Cult.
With nearly fifteen years of consecutive BMX competition history in tow, Vans is thrilled to bring the prolific Rebel Jam contest to the beach to showcase a world-class field of talented BMX street riders.
The Olympic flame is not yet lit, but Tokyo 2020 vibes are already spreading across many BMX contests. FISE runs events on the UCI International Calendar, at French, European and world class level, that provide BMX Freestyle Park riders with opportunities to gain coveted qualification points for their country towards the next Olympic Games. On Friday 5th July, at House of Vans' monthly BMX Support Group, a night dedicated entirely to riders on two wheels, House of Vans are hosting the World Premiere of Federal Bikes' 'FTS', featuring riding in London, Seville, Philly, California, Barcelona, Tel Aviv and Madrid from Dan Lacey, Bruno Hoffmann, Anthony Perrin, Michal Smelko, Ryan Eles and James Cunningham. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has the pleasure of announcing that the inaugural UCI BMX Freestyle Flatland World Championships will be held as part of the next UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, which will take place on 6-10 November 2019 in Chengdu, in China. The 2019 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships will thus feature BMX Freestyle Flatland, BMX Freestyle Park and Trials, three urban and dynamic disciplines.

Road to X Games: Boise Qualifier – Marcus Christopher Punches Ticket to X Games Minneapolis 2019
Returning to the City of Trees and the legendary Rhodes Skate Park for the third edition of the Road to X Games: Boise Qualifier, the world’s top skateboard and BMX athletes competed to secure their invitations to Minneapolis. More than 10,000 fans witnessed six Men’s Skateboard and BMX athletes and five Women’s Skateboarders qualify for X Games Minneapolis through a new jam session format. The BMX, Men’s and Women’s Park competitions each began with a 21-athlete qualifier, where each athlete completed as many 40-second runs as possible within the 18-minute jam session. After the initial qualifier, 12 athletes moved onto Saturday’s elimination and again competed in 18-minute jam sessions. Three riders from each heat advanced to the final and also qualified for X Games. Those riders then competed in one final heat to determine final ranking.
