August 2005 - Brighton will host one of Europe’s most prestigious BMX competitions as the Etnies Backyard Jam (EBYJ) hits the Brighton Centre from 21 – 23 October 2005, ready with a 375 m2 purpose built street course, retail area and Snickers public street course. Now in its 12th year the Etnies Backyard Jam is coming back bigger and better, with riders confirmed from Etnies, Federal and Hoffman bikes including Jamie Bestwick, Morgan Wade, Taj Mihelich, Mike Escamilla, Ruben Alcantara, Mike Aitken, Van Homan, Corey Martinez, Bas Keep, Jon Taylor and Sergio Layos to mention but a few. With such a line up and the relaxed atmosphere the EBYJ is famous for, riders will be pushing themselves in the face of a record prize pool of $40,000 overall.

RED BULL BACKYARD BUILD-OFF invades Cincinnati. Worlds’ best to compete on the unknown at inaugural course design competition Santa Monica, CA – August, 2005 – The inaugural Red Bull BackyardBuild-Off is hammering its way to the Queen City backyard of Matt Bischoff aka The Failure Compound October 5 – 9, 2005. Whether they use a jigsaw, drill press, or just good old fashion blood and sweat, the three teams of world renowned ramp designers and builders will each have the same amount of raw materials and three full days to design and construct the ultimate BMX course.

Redline's Mike Escamilla broke the Guinness Book World Record for long distance backflip on a BMX bike over the Big Air ramp at the X-Games. First, he beat the world record of a back flip off the mega ramp. The previous record was 54 feet. Mike jumped 62 feet, 2 inches, and then went on to set another record for Distance 360's at 50 feet 6 inches. This was an unexpected record, that had never been attempted before. In setting this mark, Rooftop and his DEVICE frame spun a one-handed tabletop during the fifty-foot long 360.

Jeroen Pleijsier a.k.a. Prik is putting on a flatland jam in Rotterdam. The jam is called No Licence jam and will take place on 4 September next. The event will take place on the "Schouwburgplein" which is easy for the foreigners asking for directions. If you don't have a licence and travel by train, make sure you get to the Central Station (CS) at 12:30pm. Someone will be present to show you the way to the jam circle. On the 17th September 05 there will be the "The Crown" Flatlandcontest in Hamburg, which will be happening in the empty terminal 1 of Hamburg airport. Initiator of this Contest is Flatlander Asbjörn Bracht from Rendsburg. There will be Master & Pro Class. DEW ACTION SPORTS TOUR ARRIVES IN THE ROSE CITY WITH FOUR DAYS OF COMPETITION STARTING ON AUG. 18 Guettler and Bestwick, Among Athletes to Watch at the Vans® Invitational in Portland, Oregon PORTLAND, Ore., AUG. 15, 2005, -The Dew Action Sports Tour, the first-ever, season-long professional multi-sport tour in action sports, begins four days of competition on Aug. 18 at the third stop of the Tour, the Vans® Invitational at the Rose Quarter. More than 150 of the top action sports athletes in the world will compete in skateboarding (vert and park), BMX (park, vert, and dirt), and freestyle motocross in pursuit of the Dew Cup and the largest competitive purse in action sports.

-The EASTPAK TRANSITION TOUR (bmx, skate, music, shenanigans....) is kicking off in the UK, soon, from 20 AUG....... On the tour are the following BMX-ers: Anthony Pill, Ben Hennon, Ben Manuel, Mark Webb, Martyn Tamblin, James Hitchcox and Pete Marselle. The crew will hit the following places to support the local skateparks: 20 Aug: Hayes; Lake Farm Country Park. BMX track, Dawley Rd. 21 Aug: Solihull; Tudor Grange Park 22 Aug: Barrow in Furness; Town Hall Square 27/28 Aug: Penzance Skatepark, Concrete Carnival They are bringing their own ramp. Hey Roots Fans! Here's a letter from Ronnie B. for you all... I am writing this letter to let everyone know the 8th Roots Jam will be postponed until 2006. What started as a local jam eight years ago has turned into an amazing event and a meeting place for riders from all over the world. We have hosted Roots and put 110% into it because of my passion for BMX and the dedication to wanting to give back to the BMX community.
