Here is how each rider finished up for the weekend and in the case of the NBL for the season.
Kyle Bennett has had a rough time in the past few weeks. Kyle actually broke a bone in his foot 3 weeks ago, as he was jumping a huge road gap near his home in Texas and crashed. After some intensive rehab and a custom Carbon Fiber Foot Brace, he tried his best to go after his 3rd NBL #1 Pro title. Kyle held a one point lead over Donny Robinson going into the weekend, but the lack of riding and training, as well as the pain kept the thought of not competing on Kyle's mind all the way up to Saturday morning. Once Kyle made the decision to see if he could make a run for the title, he never once complained or used his foot as a excuse. He went all out and by the looks of his racing up to the main event, you wouldn't have even know Kyle had been hurt. It all came down to the main event, as Kyle had to beat Donny to take the title. It just wasn't to be, as Kyle was just edged out going into the first turn and was jammed up in the pack. Kyle finished 5th for the day and 2nd overall for the year. Kyle still looks to add the ABA #1 Pro title, as he currently leads the ABA AA Pro points chase. Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell F1 Fork, Sun Rims, Shimano, UGP, Kenda, Thomson, Utopia Eyewear, S & M bars, ODI, ORP, OGIO, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Randy Stumpfhauser had a way outside chance of taking home his 2nd NBL #1 Pro title, but it would rely on the 2 other top AA's Donny and Kyle not to make the main. As that didn't happen, Randy wanted to finish off his season on a strong note, with a win at the Grands. Randy was by far the fastest racer all weekend and when the main event took off, he holeshotted, and took the Sun Ringle Holeshot award. Going into the Pro Section, Donny poured on the gas as he wanted to get as far away from Kyle as possible and somehow got passed Randy in the last turn. Donny slowed up Randy just a bit, as he was passed by another racer and would finish up 3rd in the main event as well as #3 for the 2006 season. Randy also impressed his fans with a 2nd in Elite open. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, AC racing, Bombshell, Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, Tool Shed, SDG, SRAM, Easton, S & M Bars, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Cristian Becerine made this his big comeback weekend after his torn rotator cuff he suffered back in February. Cristian raced at the worlds, but a few crashes plagued him. Cristian was one of the other riders that was flying all weekend and he was in both the Elite and Elite Open Main events. In the Elite main Cristian finished up 4th. In Elite Open, Cristian took the holeshot and never looked back, as he won wire to wire. Finial healthy, Cristian looks forward to the rest of the season and a lot more Pro wins. Cristian's Sponsors include: Free Agent, Answer, Kenda, THE, Vigor Helmets, Oakley, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Tool Shed, Powerbar, BMXpros.com, OGIO, Cyto Sport/Cyto Max, and Thomson Seat Posts.
Congratulations go out to Donny Robinson for winning the 2006 NBL #1 Pro title, to go along with his North American UCI #1 Ranking and UCI World Championship in Pro Cruiser.
ABA Black Jack Nationals Reno, NV
The ABA Black Jack Nationals was a huge success for many reasons. For starters, Reno is always a good race and the atmosphere is always great and a ton of fun. The ABA Always builds a awesome track inside the Reno Events center and the arena itself makes it one of the best place to watch the racing action. The biggest surprise and the best thing about the event was the ABA now has live streaming video broadcasting of the event! This is by far the best thing to happen to BMX in quite some time and the ABA has once again stepped it up. Great Job! Here is how Dale and Brandon finished up.
Dale Holmes has been busy the past few months. Just 3 weeks ago, Dale finished up 2nd at the Norba Pro Mountain Cross finals in Colorado. Dale next headed off to Colombia for the International BMX Championships “Summer Festival", where he and 11 other Pros from the USA had a blast racing. Dale headed up to Reno this weekend and while his result of a 7th in AA on Sunday might not be the most impressive thing from this 3 time World Champion, it shows that Dale is still a top dog in the AA pro class and just gave him some more motivation to be in the winners circle once again. Dale's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Utopia Eyewear, Kenda, Sun Ringle, Thomson, Troy Lee Designs, S & M bars, THE Products, Shimano, OGIO, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, IE Bikes, and BMXpros.com
Brandon Meadows made his return to the ABA AA Pro scene and started things off on a great note, as he raced the Friday night Pre race to get some more racing time under his belt. Brandon walked away with a win in the Pro Class on Friday night and a good start to his comeback to AA racing. Brandon missed the cut for AA on Day 1 but came back and made a strong appearance on Sunday, making the AA big show. Brandon finished up 8th but us well on his way back to being a top AA pro. Look for Brandon to shine this upcoming week at the Mt. Dew Tour UCI Super Cross race. Brandon's sponsors include: Big Tool, Fly Racing, Tangent, Thomson, Shimano, Sun Ringle, Powerbar, and BMXpros.com
