was Jared Garcia (Victorville, Calif./Supercross Bicycles). A strong start saw him riding in third early in his semifinal heat, but he bumped with another rider coming around a turn and crashed with several other competitors to finish sixth, out of contention to advance. Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX), who won yesterday’s superfinal time trial, took the top spot in all three of his qualifying heats to advance to the quarterfinals, where an untimely crash ended his day. Barry Nobles (Sun City, Calif./DK Bicycles) also made it to the quarterfinals, but finished sixth in his heat and did not move on.
Nick Koehler (Tustin, Calif./GT Bicycles), Jordan Miranda (Bakersfield, Calif./GT Bicycles) and Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif./GT Bicycles) did not advance beyond the qualifying heats.
Martin’s silver is the third medal for the United States at the Papendal World Cup after Fields took the win and Post placed second in the superfinal time trial on Saturday. Fields now ranks second in the overall world cup standings, just 14 points behind the leader, Jelle van Gorkom of the Netherlands. Martin also holds the second spot, 27 points behind Shanaze Reade of Great Britain. Post comes in at fifth in the standings, 160 points behind Reade.
