Happy New Year everyone! This past weekend at Nerang on the Gold Coast hosted the season opening rounds of the BMX Australian National series. This years event was the largest Australian National round Nerang has had pulling lots of fans, spectators and riders, even with the weather. Racing conditions where tough with the Gold Coast recording the hottest day in 6 years followed by the most humid day.
It was a great feeling to be racing back in front of a home crowd in Australia and back on the BMX bike full time in 2014.
DK Bicycles held a coaching clinic on the Thursday prior to the event coaching 64 little shredders excited for the weekends racing. The future of BMX is looking bright with many great up and coming riders especially amongst the girls classes. Huge thank you to Corey Stafford the DK team manager who is so organized, leading the way and setting the standard for race teams in Australia.
T
he best thing over the weekend for the advancement of women's progression in BMX was the decision to open the pro straight and make it optional for the girls to jump. Challenging myself a little too much in the final on day one I came up short on the first pro jump, giving me an overall placing for day one of racing of #2nd place. Day two of racing I played it a bit safe,r only jumping the pro straight in the heats and crossing the line with #1st place for day two.
Before flying home to Canberra the Australian BMX High Performance team had a camp at Sleeman supercross track where I also was filming the introduction and first episode of my video series "BUCHANAN On Air" bringing BMX to the fans and community. Up close following me to all the 2014 World Cup and Olympic Qualifiers around the globe. Stay tuned...
Leading the points series for elite women I'm looking forward to the next rounds of the National Series being brought to you from Perth Western Australia.
