"Tomorrow is a huge day especially for the women. In our nation ranking points we are right there on the bubble right now with sending two girls or one and good results by Arial (Martin), Jill (Kintner) and Amanda (Geving),” said King.
Donny (Robinson) has worked hard to improve his time trail. This is icing on the cake for him. America’s Donny Robinson edged out Maris Strombergs (LAT) to take the fastest time trial in 30.595 sec. The 25 year old from California admitted he was keen to beat fellow American, Mike Day.
Robinson, a former World Cup Supercoss series winner, was elated but says that last year he realized the importance of the time trail. "Last year at Supercross my time trails just kept getting worse and worse. I didn’t know why. So this year I just wanted to get my time trial’s better.” Whatever it is it’s working. In Spain I got second and it’s been impossible to beat Mike Day in a time trail. I had a pretty decent lap and Mike (Day) kept messing up in his time trail. I got the top seed I guess.”
By ranking number one Robinson has the choice of lane going into tomorrow’s racing. “I will take lane one. For this track it will be the best to have the inside,” explained Robinson.
Robinson said the team would race together but it was every man for himself when the final eight line up. “We are all friends and we will all want to see each other in the main. We don’t even know each other on the main lap. There is no reason why eight riders on the main can’t be US riders,” said Robinson.
Australia’s Luke Madill claimed third while French rider, Quentin Daleyron, took fifth spot. Former mountain biker Michel Prokop gained fifth while world number one, Marc Willers, from New Zealand was mid field in 38th position. It was a disappointing day for Dutch rider, Martijn Scherpen, with a shoulder injury taking him out of the competition.
Racing gets underway tomorrow with the men’s eights at 1.00 pm.
