How many racing kits do you normally have during one season of BMX racing?
Judy Baauw: We have one kit but multiple jerseys and pants. For this season we got also a black and white shirt for training sessions.
What career number is printed on the back?
Judy Baauw: 388
What do you look for in protection gear? Comfort? Weight? Quality? Pricing?
Judy Baauw: Most of all quality and comfort.
How does it feel showing up at a race with brand new gear?
Judy Baauw: If you look good, you feel good and if you feel good you ride better.
What happens to your old gear at the end of the season?
Judy Baauw: I give my gear away at the end of the season to people who deserve it. Not to people who are asking everyone.
Do you change lenses much in your goggles?
Judy Baauw: Depends on the weather. If it’s sunny I usually wear a mirrow lens, but if it gets dark / rainy or the race is indoors, I switch to a clear lens.
You ripped your gloves. What do you do with them?
Judy Baauw: I keep them in my helmet bag for a few months (maybe a year ?) and when I came to the conclusion that I never wear them anymore I throw them away. I think I have 10 different pairs of gloves in my helmet bag at the moment.
Do you save a jersey yourself from each season?
Judy Baauw: Yes, always! Building up some memories.
What’s a product you can advise every rider to use?
Judy Baauw: I use an anti-condensation spray for my Oakley lenses
Do you think certain protection gear should be mandatory or do you leave that up to the rider himself/herself to decide?
Judy Baauw: I leave that up to the rider. The only thing you can avoid with protection gear is abrasions. That’s the main reason I wear protection. I don’t like the scars especially on my legs because it’s not pretty if you want to wear a dress in the summer. ?
Any advice to the BMX racers out there?
Judy Baauw: It’s all about having fun in what you’re doing. So make it fun!
