The more I get involved in the MX scene the more often I come across on how many riders actually ride BMX. The Flockart brothers live 5 minutes away from the Sowerby's in Scotland and ride the Livingston skatepark every now and then. Stefan Everts has been looking into getting his own skatepark, Josh Coppins is sponsored by Stolen Bikes and factory Suzuki riders Kevin Strijbos and Joel Smets can be found messing around on the BMX track in Dessel, Belgium once in a while.
The BMX part was not a priority on anyone's mind during the GP of Valkenswaard. Occasional BMX-er Ben Townley (New Zealand) used his skill and balls to win both MX2 moto's. Tyla Rattray (South Africa) rides BMX in his spare time as well and got 2 second place finishes. Looks like riding the little bikes is helping with the MX results. Not a lot of BMX is going on in Italy so Chiodi's third place must have come from his former MX world title experience.
The MX1 class saw Yamaha team mates Stefun Everts and Cedric Melotte win a moto each. Joel Smets got third and Eric Minozzi had prepared Pichon's Oakley's good enough for him to get 2 fourth places. Points were divided among those who had a good start and held on for 35 minutes + 2 laps. Bad luck happened to lots of riders with mechanicals. Showtime Erwin Robins scored one point which was an accomplishment in itself. The locals celebrated (till 4am).
