Victoria’s Ziggy Callan was too quick for Beijing Olympian, Nicole Callist,o in the Skin Industrries 2009 Vic open state championships women’s final today in Melbourne. Despite a slippery track the 20 year old from Lilydale took the lead after the first turn to edge out Callisto and Bendigo’s Jaclyn Wilson-Thompson. “We were all three were really close. There was a bit of a hairy second where I thought I would slip,” admitted Callan. After missing last year’s title race with an ankle injury Callan says this win is the best of her previous state titles.. “The special wins are the ones you really have to work for. This one is special,” Callan said. Callisto crashed on the last turn placing seventh giving second to Queensland’s Chelsea King. Wilson-Thompson placed a respectable third. Fellow Victorian, Michael Chasteauneuf defeated a top class Australian field to take out the elite men’s race. The 18 year old held off an early challenge by Queenslander Dirk Winter.
