Adelaide’s Brian Kirkham snared the national series today in Shepparton despite only having two weeks preparation. The 24 year old defended his series title by winning the fourth round and the final round today. “I wasn’t really confident coming into it,” admitted Kirkham. “My two goals this weekend were to win the national series and the championships so - one box ticked.”
Despite suffering a broken shoulder blade and hand just over a month ago Kirkham was able to hold the lead in the final race. Kirkham admitted that he was still tentative coming back into his first race today. “As each race went past I felt more confident and come to the main I was feeling really good,” he admitted. “It’s my hand that is still worrying me a bit.”

On May 7 and May 8 2010 the world’s best BMX Supercross riders gather in Copenhagen Denmark during the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup presented by Swatch. A record number of 180 riders from 22 countries have signed up. At stake are not only points for overall World Cup victory but also the first vital Olympic points leading up to London 2012. Next to that this Supercross World Cup is the last event of this type before the UCI BMX World Championships in Pietermaritzburg South Africa in July.

Mens favourites On Friday May 7 the event will start with the qualifying time trials followed by the finals on Saturday May 8. Among the male favourites are Maris Strombergs (LAT) the Olympic Champion of 2008, Sam Willoughby (AUS) number 1 on the world ranking and winner of the Madrid stop in March 2010 and Connor Fields (USA) winner of the 2009 Chula VIsta leg and runner up of the Madrid stop. Donny Robinson (USA), the current World Champion, is injured and will have to miss this stop of the UCI BMX Supercross

Before we headed over to the Dirt Comp in Germany Paul and I stopped in Valkenswaard to experience some motocross action. The best in the world had gathered for the Dutch GP and the playground was a big sand pit. It was amazing to see the young ones scrub the jumps to stay low and they kept that throttle open all the time. Respect. Today I washed my dirt bike. It was still covered in mud from six months ago.
