The First design in called the compass road and is designed by Ian Sinclair and Ian has thrown away the idea of an hour and gone with a 90 minutes which reminds him of the golden age of cinema, he has also arranged his favourite writers and visionaries and positioned them around the dial each in according to their geographic link with London.
The second design is inspired by Graeme Obree and the prestigious hour record in the velodrome, the design has a crank shaped hour hand that reveals a special word in a reflection to the passing of time.
The third designer Brian Catling to explain his design concept explained as he was getting on in years and a retired gentleman that keeping track of precise time was not high on the agenda for him, It harks back to the days of the sun dial with a single sphere that changes colour as it rotates around the face of the watch.
Unfortunately William Andrews and Tom Middleton who also had done a watch couldn’t make the evening to explain the concept behind their design.
It was quite a civilized affair with free wine and a good spread of food for all that attended. I don’t really think these watches aimed at the extreme market but if you like design and art and the idea that goes into designing items you may well be interested in purchasing one of these watches, you will have to be fast as there are limited numbers being made and I think the price of them is about £145.
