Encounter BMX Lifestyle and Road Trip magazine is straight from Japan. It's the first issue we've got our hands on and it's put together by Editor in Chief Ysuyuki Takeo with the help of his team. Part of it is in English so that makes it easier to read for those of us who do not speak Japanese. I have the feeling that Encounter is there to support the Japanese BMX scene. It's important to have a magazine that actually supports the sport and wants to make it grow.
It covers not only flatland but also has an article on trails and how to maintain them, it's got an interview with
Masahiro Sanpei who also wants to help make the BMX racing scene bigger. The
Yohei Uchino interview is interesting as it shows how much he gave up to become a pro BMX rider. It's got BMX trip reports (Okinawa & Germany/Poland) and BMX Trip tips. The 74 pages are full of BMX related articles. The Japanese want to create a BMX world on their own and the magazine is a big help in that.
