With great anticipation I put the Flipside DVD in my computer. The story of 4 street riders visiting "pro town" and 4 fully sponsored (contest) pros visiting NYC in return sounded like a good concept. I was waiting for Mirra, Harrington, Dillewaard and Laird to get lost in New York where the only bit of transition can be found at the bottom of the Brooklyn banks. In return seeing
E-man, Nigel Sylvester, Blackman and
Ralphy in a foampit and playing Golf would be something else too. But before the show started,
Glenn Milligan pops up on the screen and announces a slight change of plan.

The van that was packed with the street riders and almost on its way down to Greenville got put on hold as Dave had some contractual obligation going on in California. The crew decides to hit a state that had no rain instead and with their street eyes on focus they found some new terrain. They then did arrive at the
Dave Mirra warehouse in Greenville for a session and
Ralphy learns back- and front flips in a day. A foampit and resi work wonders. Dave Mirra cooks everyone breakfast and they take off to the golf course together. No
Tiger Woods in the making here. More riding takes place at Mirra's training ground and the NYC crew was impressed.
Josh Harrington took the guys out for a street session and killed it. It helps being a local. Ralphy does a rad manual to nosewheely,
E-man combines barspins, backwards manuals and 360's on a loading dock type-o-thing,
Nigel can do 180 barspins with his eyes closed and
Blackman ain't scared. That huge 360 drop was sick. By this time
Dave Dillewaard has arrived on the scene and is already showing his bikeriding skills (on the streets this time).

Wow.
Glenn pops up on the screen again telling everyone that the original plan is not working out. Instead they're showing just riding from this point on. There's some footy of
Mike Spinner, Daniel Dhers and more unannounced riders. Then they go to NYC where Dillewaard is the only "fully sponsored contest pro" who makes it there. Dilly is doing great though. The next scene is
Mike Laird back home in Greenville where he hits all transition in town. Then it's back to NYC with a
Nigel Sylvester. You guessed it. The original idea of Flipside is far gone and that's quite disappointing. I had high expectations of this RIDEBMX DVD for the concept alone but it didn't materialize. The riders didn't disappoint, the original concept did. No bonus section with this DVD but a Free 12 month subscription card of RIDE BMX magazine. We filled that in with FATBMX contributor
Lloyd Ramsay's name on it making sure somebody's happy.
