There are zipped areas for batteries, cables, USB memory stick, pocket camera, chargers etc. and there is an organizer in the front that also fits a rain jacket (that we've had to use lately). Actually, when it starts to rain, you can find the shower cap for the backpack at the bottom to make sure your equipment stays dry. Nice touch. One thing that we found was not 100% were the adjusters for the straps on the front. After walking around at the Decoy trails all day we had some bruises on the biseps the next day. At first it wasn't clear where the bruises came from (we partied at night, could have been that, didn't remember though) but in the end it were the adjusters that stick out a bit too far. You rub your biseps on them while walking/climbing. Minor detail, but worth mentioning.
We've put the entire backpack in a travel bag and checked it in, knowing that the equipment is safe from the airlines throwing it around. It's a good feeling when it shows up on the belt.
