Parts you need most often?
Sven: There is not really 1 part which I think is the most important one. Nothing would function good if there is one part missing I think. If there is 1 part I would never change again it's my s&m bars. I tried a lot of different bars and my conclusion everytime is that I have to buy the slam bar again, it just rocks!
There is also a lot of fuss about the brakes, brakeless riding is all of a sudden 'cool'. I absolutely love my brake, I always try to ride to the maximum so I do not use my brake that much but sometimes you absolutely have to. When you're riding in a park brakeless you're a danger to the other riders and that sucks, also when you're riding big jumps it is recommended that you ride them with brakes, you never know what can happen and if you have a good brake you are able to stop it before it really goes wrong. Don't get me wrong, I respect every brakeless rider because it's harder to ride without them and it's a mission to master it. I just see my brakes as a safety insurance for myself and other riders.
I'm gonna stop whining about all my bike parts cause I can go on for hours, the last thing I'm going to say is that I recommend the Deathtrap frame to every allround rider! It has the balance of a solid dirt bike and the lightness and smoothness of a great park bike.
Do you have a hook up for most parts?
Sven: I got a Premium products sponsorship. Every year I can order every part I want from Premium, up to now there is only one part I don't like and that's the Sub 9 stem (which I am riding right now). Premium products are absolutely amazing, I love them.
I also get sponsorship from the 900 shop, if my bike is not complete when the Premium order has arrived I can complete it with parts from the shop (up to a certain price of course).
Do you care about the looks of your bike?
Sven: Good parts and smoothness of my bike is the priority but every rider wants his bike to look good when you're riding it. When I think my bike is ugly my motivation for riding goes way down so I do think looks are important.
Does it have to roll smooth all the time?
Sven: When I arrive at a spot and I notice that my bike isn't riding smooth but I do not have the right equipment with me to fix it I will ride my bike the way it is that day but I will also be annoyed by it. When I notice some mallfunction in my bike I try to fix it as fast as possible. It's just so mush cooler to ride your bike and all you hear and feel are your tires and your driver.
What tire pressure do you run?
Sven: 80p (5bars). I ride with a lot of pressure. Sometimes it sucks when the track isn't smooth but it's awsome the rest of the time, it gives you the opportunity to feel every single thing, to have maximum control and to go as high as possible.
Did you customize it in any way?
Sven: Nothing special I think. I don't do peg stuff so I don't ride with pegs, same story for the rotor. My bike is costumized to my own riding style. I didn't invent tricks to get rid of little problems. My brakes allways make a lot of noise, they told me a million times to angle my brake pads so one side of the pad hits the rim before the other side. The reason of the noise is that the pad vibrates when the complete pad hits the rim in one time. My pads are angled but the noise isn't gone.
What's with the RockShox sticker on the forks?
Sven: Some idiotic guy, named Greg van Tulder, stole my bike for a moment and put the sticker on it. He told me he would get mad if I would take it off so it's still on. For me it became a sign of friendship. I always ride with Greg and everytime we ride it's a lot of fun and I wouldn't want it any other way. That's what the sticker is all about.
