Every brand has a logo, but few can claim a print like Vans can with Checkerboard. Born in Southern California and showcased on the world stage by legendary film slacker Jeff Spicoli, the iconic motif is now synonymous with Vans’ ubiquitous “Off The Wall” lifestyle. To bring the globally-recognized print to the streets and up to speed, Vans presents the Era Pro in Checkerboard, showcasing an elevated, performance-driven take on the original Era icon.
The Era Pro’s inception began when legend Tony Alva partnered with Vans by adding a padded collar and heel cap to the original Authentic to create the Era. Fast forward 40 years and the Era is fully engineered with Vans Pro Classics specifications, offering high impact UltraCush HD cushioning sockliners, Pro Vulc construction for better boardfeel, and lasting Duracap rubber reinforcements. The Era Pro remains as timeless as ever, combining two icons into one modern-day classic.
The Era Pro joins a growing list of heavy hitter Pro Classics, available now in a range of Checkerboard styles, including the Sk8-Hi Pro, Old Skool Pro, and Slip-On Pro. Backed by living legend Jason Dill and emerging style master Rowan Zorilla, it’s clear the future of Checkerboard will be every bit as rad as the past.
Vans moved the whole operation to Costa Mesa recently, and with that move came a lot of life improvements...the most epic of them being a little private 'training facility' that the employees and pro riders can call their own at any time of the day or night. Before the Vans Street Invitational kicked off, we organized a little (but insanely heavy) session with some of the Vans squad including Dakota Roche, Bruno Hoffmann, Kilian Roth, Gary Young, Dan Lacey, Andrew Castaneda, and Anthony Perrin. Hope you enjoy the raw cut; finding cleared music that isn't horrible, so I figured this was the best way to go. Besides, I think it tells the vibe of the session pretty well. Want more? Leave a comment and we'll hassle Vans to get some more people in there.

Vans pays tribute to over 50 years of “Off The Wall” design history by releasing the Anaheim Factory pack, a collection of Classic silhouettes that draws inspiration from the original footwear produced in Anaheim, Calif. When Vans opened for business in 1966, a 400 sq. ft. retail store was connected to the front of the production factory, which sold a handful of simple canvas footwear. Today, Vans calls upon those early styling cues to release a modern update to Vans Icons as a part of the ongoing Classics “Not Just One Thing” campaign.
Every design element within the Anaheim Factory pack could be dated back to the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Style numbers are used to signify the original design mold of three footwear models – the
