Boekel is only 10 miles from here. In the past we used to ride our bikes that distance to ride all day with someone who lived up there and then ride our BMX bike back home. Times have changed and we threw 3 bikes in the back of the Vito on a Sunday evening to ride the Boekel trails.
We've had a report up on the trails a while ago but decided to give you some fresh pics for an updated version. Boekel is a BMX race town. Meybo is the local BMX shop. If the BMX-ers don't make it to their home track in Veghel for gate practice, they can be found at the trails. Although they do not get any help from the local council (no truckloads of sand and no bobcats allowed), the trails are allowed which already is a big plus. There's no fear of the trails being plowed at any given day.
The sand the locals have to work with is pretty similar of the Sugar Hills sand: black earth. It's easy to work with but falls apart quite quick. To avoid this, the landings have carpet to keep the sand together. The locals had built a new (bigger) line next to the 14-pack which was a good challenge. The 8-pack on the way back is really tight and demands concentration if you ride it for the first time. There's some small stuff in the middle too.
It's not the best trails we've ever ridden but it's good for a session every once in a while. We'll be back.
