From 1st - 3rd of August 2008 the German Open will take place at Berlins’ Mellowpark. It's the official German BMX championship in the categories of street, dirt, miniramp, vert and flatland riding, so everyone is expecting to see the best German pro and amateur athletes (and of course international riders are welcome too)! The German Open is not only a contest highlight of the BMX summer in 2008, it's also an important statement against what is going to happen by the end of this year:

Two-time, defending Dew Cup champion Daniel Dhers remains perfect in competition with a win in the BMX park event, Sunday in the Right Guard Open. It was a heated contest between the 23-year-old Dhers, of Venezuela, and Miami's Mike Spinner, who landed the first ever quad whip in BMX competition.

Dhers landed a 720 over the long box jump, a 720 to tailwhip air, and earned a score of 92.67. Spinner placed second with 91.17 and Rob Darden, of Greenville, N.C. was third with 91.17 points, based on a lower scoring first run than Spinner's.

"The scariest was the seven in the long box," Dhers said. "Every time I jumped it I had a different speed. You think you're not going to make it because it's so long. Let's see what happens at the next stop. It's Spinner's favorite stop and my nemesis stop."

As the last two athletes to ride in the BMX vert finals, Bestwick and Chad Kagy were tied for the lead with 94.50. Bestwick, of Great Britain, executed a flawless run which included a downside tailwhip X up. Kagy, of Gilroy Calif., fell while attempting a double whip flair and placed second. Australian Steven McCann finished third with 93.33. "I was just keeping the height and didn't stop tricking," Bestwick said. "I tried to capitalize on their mistakes. That was right to the end tonight. It was a really awesome final. I wished Chad had landed that double whip flair. There are three stops left and I know everyone's gunning for me."

The four-day competition is the second of five stops of the AST Dew Tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross. Sunday's action features BMX Park finals.

AST Dew Tour-Right Guard Open Results Saturday, July 19, 2008 Cleveland 

Cameron White established his dominance on the dirt course and won the BMX Dirt event in the Right Guard Open on Friday night. The 24-year old White, of Australia, landed his signature trick, a backflip barspin tailwhip, to secure the victory with a 93.92 score. Fellow Australian Ryan Guettler finished second at 92.50 and Ryan Nyquist of Greenville, N.C. was third at 91.59.

The 90-minute final was full of technical tricks, with a 1080 from Guettler and a double backflip from Luke Parslow, who finished sixth.

White is the current points leader in the quest for the Dew Cup but he doesn't do well on the standings. "If you start looking long term it's just added pressure," White said. "I try to alleviate all the pressure I can and just compete against myself every run. Those runs I did today were the best I can do. I gave it everything and landed it and that's all you can ask for."

For those of you that noticed, we recently posted some profiles of a few BMX guys. Back in the day Osiris had a BMX team, but when the going got tough, we unfortunately had to cut the program. Since then we’ve been hooking up a few guys, but we never reestablished a team. Tom Haugen was on the team back in the day and has been getting shoes from us since. He said he just liked the way they felt, and he would rather get free shoes from us then to get 

They came to rave with Fatboy, take stock with Morrissey, croon with the Counting Crows, bounce with Jay-Z, and rock out with Monster Energy Drink - and that they did! Over 100,000 guests were treated to some of the finest BMX and Skate talent during the four-day 02 Wireless Festival in London last weekend (3rd-6th July). The ‘Monster Vert Ramp & Reefer Truck’ area proved the place to be with breathtaking action on the vert ramp, as well as public bar and VIP area to keep the good times flowing! Guests were treated to great BMX talent in Jimmy Walker and special guest Jon Taylor – as well as Jamie Bestwick who stunned crowds with his flawless riding, neon frame and back-to-back tricks; “We’ve had great weather, great music and great crowds – what more could you ask for” added home-grown talent Bestwick.

With many new converts to both BMX and Skateboarding over the weekend, people visited in drones to the Monster compound to soak up the electric atmosphere, offset with non-stop 

The last FAT Friday before we board to the USA for some major BMX events. Can't wait to see everyone again and with a bit of luck we'll have some pics of BMX legends at work in Huntington Beach, California. With California 9 hours back from Europe, FAT Friday #29 will probably arrive in Europe some time on Saturday. Whatever, we're doing our best to bring you a weekly summary of the BMX news that went on.

-At the moment the second round of the Dew Tour is going on in Cleveland, Ohio. It's the biggest series of the year and dirt qualification was won by Corey Bohan, followed by AA Pro racer Nate Berkheimer (the next Brian Foster?) and Ryan Guettler. Last year's top three automatically qualified for the finals so if you're missing some big names in the top 9 you know why. Dirt Qualifying results:
