Al D went to the newly constructed JOE TISEO MEMORIAL SKATE PARK located in Bloomfield NJ on Saturday. A huge crowd of supporters showed up for the opening ceramonies which dedicated the park in honor of the late pro bmx rider Joe Tiseo. All of the Bloomfield township polititions were on hand to praise the hard efforts of those involved in making this park become a reality. Ralph Sinisi gave a speach in Joe T's honor in which made you feel happy you had known Joe but also brought on tears to all in the crowd how deeply he is missed.
Afterwards we rode the park and shook off the fridgid winter temperature and did a few tricks for the spectators.
If there is ever going to be an Empire Of Dirt event in Newton Abbott again, the riders have now an extra spot to session. Gravity Engineering just finished up a concrete park next to the Decoy trails and BMX track. The opening was held on 15 November and Brendan sent us some photos of the session. The grippy park has tons of lines so if you're heading west in the UK, check it out.
In Sondershausen a new, exceptional indoor skatepark is going to be realized in the nearer future. Camp Ramps is responsible for the design, planning and the realization of the setup. Through its open design and its variety in ramp-structures, the skatepark is going to attract skateboarders and BMX riders of all riding levels at the same time.
In order to ensure proper skate area planning and conception, it is necessary to understand exactly what kind of sports skating, BMX and inline are. Skating emerged at the end of the 1960s in California, and was joined by BMX at the beginning of the 70s and inline skating during the mid 80s. The first official skate park (made of concrete) was opened in 1976 in Florida, though a considerably more famous example is Carlsbad Park in Carlsbad, California, which was
Everyone who has been involved in getting a spot to ride knows that it can be a long process to make things happen. The Helm trails in Helmond had received some support fromt he local council which was a good start but with the bad dirt and open playground style of location, it needed some help. If it wasn't for Mike van de Kerkhof, not much would have happened. He was the driving force behind getting the Helm Trails back off the ground. After numerous phonecalls and visits the place received an upgrade, and a good one at that.
It takes forever to convince a local council to spend some money on a skatepark. In Antwerp, Belgium it was time for a new set-up and they did it right. They hired Team Pain for the job, had some of them Americans around in Belgium for a few weeks to get the job done and the result is a killer park. Since it's made of concrete you can expect it to be around for a while too so props to the Antwerp council for coming through on this. The place is public, open at all times to bikes as well and basically has a lot to offer for everyone. Seeing someone like Gary Young, Morgan Wade and Alistair Whitton
The Helm Trails in Helmond, Netherlands were plowed with the intention to make it a bigger and better place. 20 truckloads of good dirt were dropped, a container (starting hill) will be placed next week and the opening jam will happen very soon. This weekend shaping the jumps is on the program. Bring your shovel, lend a helping hand, name a take off after yourself, just show up.
They used to be the " GT Actionbike Show team " in the old days, remember? Bernd Froehner and Matt Pingel. These days they finished a neat new concrete bike park in Bayreuth, Germany.
Super smooth to ride and all Banks got transitions on the bottom, so you don't loose speed at the usual bottom kink. A pretty unusual center obstacle is there as well, the curved volcano. All good stuff.
After a few days of "Bizznizz" around the strip in Las Vegas we managed to see the other side of the city. If you stay away from the strip it is a whole other world. Tons of spots, super weather 360 days out of the year and a whole bunch of locals. We wouldn't be surprised if more riders are going to end up living there, especially if they want to escape a harsh winter. Jose took us around and we finished the day at Ricardo Laguna's trails. Patrick Guimez and Alejandro Caro joined Ricardo and Jose for a session.
Ricardo Laguna recently bought a house in Las Vegas not far from his partents' which has a dirt spot in the backyard. When buying a house it was important that there was room for some ramps. Construction has started on a private training ground with resi spine, resi jump box and resi quarterpipe. Check it out.
