One of the spots that my father wanted to show me was Sheep Hills. He told me the spot has been around for over 25 years and the first time he visited it was in 1990. That's way before I was born. We parked the car at the gas station and rode across the bridge to get from HB to Costa Mesa. Then we took a small path on the right and rolled downhill until we got to the famous Sheep Hills. It was dusty so a mountain biker named Tyler and dad got some cans of water at the nearby lake and made a few of the jumps wet so they had better traction.
Camp Woodward's Lot 8 saw riders ripping through it again on Wednesday for the 2014 Mongoose Jam Park Competition. The first Mongoose Jam event featured 27 riders, including 22 of the world's best pros and all five amateur Woodward campers selected from Tuesday's Lucky Camper Competition. Each rider was given 40 seconds and three runs to throw down, with the best session counting as their final score. Another day in paradise but this time we got up early for a session at the Vans park in Huntington Beach. The alarm went off at 06:30hr to beat the morning traffic. At 08:00am I was padded up and ready to go. Early for riding a concrete skatepark but well worth it when you know what's there to ride. The Vans park has a lot of street stuff to ride, from ledges in all sizes to rails that won't instantly kill you.
