East London's first ever BMX racetrack rolled into action on Sunday with an opening race meeting in Dagenham attended by the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham. Cllr Marie West joined other civic dignitaries at Old Dagenham Park on Sunday, to officially open the racetrack which is just the second one to be built in London. Around 120 BMXers, young and old, novices and experts, arrived at the park to compete over various distances and in different age groups. The ambitious project to build the track, formed part of Barking and Dagenham Council's Parks Development Team's masterplan of improvements for the park off Siviter Way, Dagenham and features an eight-person track with a start hill and a variety of challenging jumps and humps.

-The season hasn't started off well for Haro's Peter Geys over in Belgium. Here's the update from Peter himself: Hello guys I’ve got more bad news from the doctor! I’m having a crack at a tendon in my left shoulder and I need a surgery on it. Because I broke 2 ribs and my collarbone on January 18th in Barcelona, Spain, they need to wait 3 weeks longer before a surgery is recommended and than it's going to take a few months before I can start riding again, bummer!  Get well soon Peter.

-Daniel Dhers has been spending winter in a warmer climate (Brasil) so he can still ride. Daniel wrote a report for the HARO Bikes website so check it out.

The first serious international contest of the year is always Braun Circle Cow in Servon, France, near Paris. Organisers Pascal & Ismael are keeping the contest alive, big props to them! Lots of riders showed up, although it seemed that there were less riders than last year, especially less French riders, I missed a lot of them, like Nico Ferrando, Francis Bessiere, Florent Guyenon and Christophe Dassie. There were also a lot of riders who were there but didn't compete like Stephane "Pokemon" Suini and riders that were working instead of riding like Manu (Agoride) and Alain (Cream) Massabova and the 713 Crew. Of course the big French pros were there like Alex Jumelin, Raphael Chiquet, Alexis Desolneux and riding for the first time in pro class, supertalent Matthias Dandois. A very large international turnup though, OG Crew from Hungary was present: Adam Kun, Peter Sarlos, Marton, Peter and the rest, UK Massive with pro riders James Smith and Keelan Philips and up-and-coming talent Paul Chamberlain and professional beatboxer/flatlander Vince Turner. Me and Bram representing Holland and a big German Crew with my friends Chris Bohm, Daniel Fuhrmann, Wolfgang Sauter and Sven Steinbach. Michael Sommer was also there, making the trip from Vienna, Austria. 

We received pics of the latest Spring 2006 models of NKE6.0 and according to the e-mail, FATBMX is the first media to bring these pics to the public. Well, here's the skinny from Nike:

The Metro BMX JAM is taking place at the International Bike Show Toronto, Ontario CANADA this weekend. With $12,000 U.S. Pro purse  and Expert prizes and a $1,500 U.S. Oakley Hard Trick contest, the Ricoh Coliseum is the place to be.  The Pro class is almost full and they've already got some of the the biggest names in BMX signed up for the 6th annual contest at the Toronto International Bike Show. With guys like Ryan Nyquist, Morgan Wade, Gary Young, Dave Osato, Corey Martinez, Bas Keep, Chris Doyle, Kye Forte, Van Homan and Kevin Porter coming, you just know the riding will be wild, and the styles will be all over the map.

The Toronto Metro and big video premiere's have become synonymous, and this year will be no different. MacNeil's road trip video 'San To Van' will follow the team of Gary Young, Alistair Whitton, Robin Fenlon, Nick Halsey, Harrison Boyce, Josh Nendza and veteran road trippers Dave Freimuth and Jay Miron as they head north on the 1-5 from San Diego to Vancouver hitting up parks and street spots all along the way.

At the start of every year we are all thinking about the summer and how bloody far away it seems when your freezing your ass off in Europe! Well if you get as far away as possible from Europe then the [url=//fatbmx.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1190]X-Air event[/url] based in Wellington New Zealand kicks off the southern summer time. This year the amount of riders chasing the summer seemed bigger than ever, noteable riders who made the epic trip were Ryan Guettler, Ali whitton, Corey Nastazio, Koji Kraft, Colin Mackay , Gary Young, Matt Fairbairn...anyway you get the idea!

BMX HEX will pay cash to the person that can lead us to catch the boys (one wearing Etnies), that stole over $7000 in product from us at the Bakersfield national last weekend. Please be on the lookout for a white Chromoly Pro Staats complete bike. The wheels have black Ciari hubs, black sun rims, and gold ti spokes. It has 175 mm Saint cranks, a fit seat, and time pedals. Also, a XXL black snap stem and Chris King headset. Also, stolen were 4 Staats frames, 4 2006 Fly carbon helmets: 1 rat rod, 1 red Pyro, 1 grey pyro, 1 wild pyro and other we are not sure. There were also several Bombshell F-1 carbon forks misc. sizes and misc. cranks stolen.
Let's band together and stop this kind of activity! All of the vendors work hard to supply a service to the BMX community. We can not afford this kind of loss. Any information? -Tobias Wicke....currently getting away from the bloody cold Berlin winter by passing his days with Hannu Cools (now also being helped by Etnies) and some Carhartt and Redbull 'industry types at Woodward East.....is also well on with testing his brand new signature bar. For an idea of how that's going to ride, think Cologne bar with some new technology and a unique 13butted design used only by wethepeople, stronger than the rest where Tobi (and you) need it most.

-We're currently working on some very limited and unique frames for a well known UK and definately old school wethepeople dealer. We'll let them supply the details on that one. But as a clue...there will be just 25.

-Metro is coming up, I'll be there myself and both Dave Osato and our new Canadian rider Sam Lowe will be riding.
