kunstform BMX Shop: No! Seppl just organised some specific stuff for the Stuttgart BMX scene. He first sold parts from his flat. Just more and more people came to the flat and so some day we moved the “shop” to a little office with a showroom. And the showroom grew and grew from year to year.
Do you have a feeling people will travel to a shop to see and feel BMX product?
kunstform BMX Shop: Some people yes, some people no.
How much of your business do you do per mail order?
kunstform BMX Shop: The most stuff we sell with our online shop www.kunstform.org but our shop in Stuttgart is quite strong too. We have a very good scene in the South West of Germany, they support us very good.
How often do you try to get the scene together for jams, special gatherings, video premieres, that kind of stuff?
kunstform BMX Shop: We do every year like 4 - 7 events like video premiers, street jams, contests and also teams from brands during roadtrips visit us and we do sessions with them together.
Have you been successful getting a place to ride for the local scene close to your shop?
kunstform BMX Shop: Yes, we are connected to nearly every BMX Skatepark or BMX Race track in and around Stuttgart. Always trying to keep things with them forward and trying to support each other.
Do you believe the Company - distributor - BMX shop chain still works?
kunstform BMX Shop: Yes, of course. As a shop it’s nearly impossible to run a shop, a distro or being a manufacturer. These things having totally different jobs, different to-do's and they need different conditions to run their businesses. Like a distribution need a big stockroom somewhere in the middle of nowhere and as cheap as possible. A shop needs a good place in the middle of the center or next to a skatepark where people can buy stuff. If you want to be a good shop then you need to focus on being a good shop 100%.
What BMX company is your favourite to work with?
kunstform BMX Shop: Well every brand what we offer I personally can advise. We also took out a lot of brands from our shop when we have the feeling that our customers just don’t get satisfied with the products of the manufactures. I observe, after we take the brand out from the shop then they start to sell directly and still a lot of customers are coming in the shop and are not happy. Some brands really push the limits to try to bring BMX forward. Brands like Subrosa, Shadow, Sunday, Odyssey, wethepeople, Mankind, éclat, Fuse, they are really on the top and always looking forward in good and bad times too.
Name some of the riders that you have sponsored?
kunstform BMX Shop: Puh that’s a long list actually. Currently we have in our team Felix Prangenberg, Kevin Nikulski, Miguel Smajli, Felix Donat, Robin Kachfi, Sven Avemaria, Ricky Felchner, Justin Rudd, Markus Schwital, Artur Meister, Andre Bodlin, Fabio Etzel, Miguel Franzem, John Krämer, Marvin Kopka, Jonas Bader, Moritz Kuhn, and Mika Köhler.
Do you have a full workshop at your BMX shop?
kunstform BMX Shop: No, we just have an open BMX workshop for every BMX rider. He can fix his bike with our tools himself or we give him advice. I think this is what you do normally too at the skatepark. If you have tools you give it to the bros.
What's the best selling product at your shop currently?
kunstform BMX Shop: Our kunstform beanie and hip bags
Now that Interbike is no more, do you think you'll miss a trade show of some sort?
kunstform BMX Shop: I never was at Interbike. In Germany the distributions run their own trade show and I like it a lot. But of course the Interbike or Euro Bike was always a big event before and I personally miss the Euro bike flair. All shops, distributions, manufactures meet and we did great partys together. This was a good time, but time changes.
What would be good for the BMX scene so it can grow?
kunstform BMX Shop: Actually I’m not sure if it’s good that the BMX Scene grows. It don’t need it to grow in my opinion. Of course it is cool when more and more kids start riding BMX, but what I really prefer is to keep the good things of BMX in the mind of young riders. BMX can give so many opportunities. Traveling to other cities, meeting people, riding new spots, having sessions and just enjoy to ride BMX, just be positive to each other and support each other that’s what we try to give to young kids.
Thanks to: All BMX riders who have supported us in the last years, thanks to our team, thanks Seppl.
