Factory Media today announced two staff changes within its bike portfolio and most notably to its market leading magazine, Ride BMX UK. Mark Noble, Ride BMX UK magazine’s founding editor of 21 years, is to broaden his responsibilities across the bike portfolio in the role of Editorial Director. Whilst maintaining a day-to-day focus in helping to deliver Ride BMX on a monthly basis, Mark will be assisting with Ride BMX’s web development and lending a hand to other editors on Factory’s bike titles.

Fox Racing first opened their doors in 1974 and catered exclusively to the sport of Motocross. Always remaining a family run business they have slowly branched out into other markets such as BMX, Surf, Snowboaring and casual wear. Constantly innovating they have a new goggle out manufactured by Oakley as well as a shoe line and carbon fibre knee braces. I recently paid Fox Racing a visit at their HQ in Morgan, California. Walking around their HQ you see some pretty cool sights. 
Russell Merry of Hot Wheels, BMX distributor since 1981 selling Mongoose, GT and WTP, has created a Gov.uk petition asking for the prime minister to shelve the 14 per cent import duty on bicycles. Merry's petition says: "Almost all bicycles sold in the UK are manufactured in the Far East. UK manufacturing on any large scale ended some time ago." Bicycles are subject to an import duty of 14% which, when compared to consumer electronics rates of near zero, is bonkers. "We have childhood obesity issues, congestion, global warming and an aging population that needs exercise - the bicycle has a role to play in the resolution of all these issues. It seems crazy that the tax regime encourages a kid to sit in front of a bicycle extreme sports computer game rather than go out and ride his bike. Dynacraft BSC, Inc., the U.S. bicycle distributor, entered into an exclusive licensing partnership with skateboarding legend and action sports pioneer, Tony Hawk. Under terms of this agreement, Dynacraft will develop several new lines of bicycles under the "Tony Hawk" brand. The line will debut at this year's Interbike show in Las Vegas at the end of September and be available in retail stores beginning Spring 2008. The deal was brokered by IP Chemistry, a division of the Dimensional Branding Group. Dynacraft is planning two different series of "Tony Hawk" products designed for its many clients. "The Tony Hawk HuckJam Series" will be created for Dynacraft's mass merchandise customers. "The Tony Hawk Signature Series", being developed by Dynacraft's recently launched Specialty Retail Group, is for sporting goods chains and other specialty retail customers.
I have an announcement that is bittersweet in that our dear friend and coworker for the past 12 years Page Hussey is departing Hoffman Enterprises to pursue a dream of becoming one of Edmond's (OK) finest. Yes, Page told us 3+ years ago that he really wanted to be a police officer and started to go to school at night. Back then, I told Page that he had a job here at Hoffman for as long as he needed until he reached his goal and he just found out that he was accepted to the police force in our hometown. The call came to him just last week and he has to be ready to go on July 8. It's sudden, but such is the way of the police academy. We love Page and are really happy that he has found what he wants. We are sad to see him go, but are very happy for him. It is exceptionally good that he will be staying in Edmond.

When BMX Business News stopped publishing there was no trade magazine for BMX. What made you decide to start one up?- James and I had been talking about several ideas towards the end of business news that we thought could help save it- but basically, the ship had sailed. We thought we had some great ideas for putting out a trade mag that addressed the current state of BMX, and also was accessible to the smaller, progressive companies that are pushing things. We decided to start one up because we know it’s important and we knew we could do it.
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
