Red Bull Illume, the world’s largest international photography competition dedicated to action and adventure sports, is making a stop in Atlanta March 20 through March 30, 2014. Once the sun sets, locals and visitors alike are invited to stroll through Piedmont Park and take in the sights of 25 life-sized, illuminated light boxes that are touring the world as part of a unique nighttime exhibition. The images, which have been carefully selected and curated from over 28,000 submitted photographs, showcase the most exciting and creative action sports photography on the planet. Throughout the free 10-day exhibition, attendees also will have opportunities to attend lectures from the award-winning photographers, meet Red Bull professional athletes and more.
The 2013 Red Bull Illume Image Quest is the third edition of the competition after 2007 and 2010. A total of 28,257 photos were submitted last year by 6,417 photographers from 124 countries around the globe. The top 50 images, first unveiled in Hong Kong, are now touring the world as part of a unique illuminated nighttime
exhibition. An international panel of esteemed photo editors selected the top 50 images, naming 10 category winners and one overall 2013 Red Bull Illume winner.
“There are talented photographers and then there are gifted photographers,” said
Jym Wilson, Senior Photo Editor at USA Today and one of 50 Red Bull Illume judges globally.
“I saw a lot of talent but also saw some truly gifted photographers. These are not just action photographers but people with great technical and artistic skills.” The Red Bull Illume kickoff event will be on Thursday, March 20th and begin at approximately 8 p.m. as the sun sets over Piedmont Park. Located at the 10th Street side of the park inside the Charles Allen gates, the unveiling of the illuminated light boxes is open to the public and free to attend. The evening will feature performances by Red Bull athletes and live broncolor photo demonstrations by winning photographers. Cocktails will be available for guests ages 21 and up.
After the exhibit’s 10-day stop in Atlanta, the Red Bull Illume Exhibition Tour will head to Spain and then continue to travel around the world's capitals and cultural hubs for the next two years. For additional details, please visit www.redbullillume.com and follow @RedBullATL on Twitter.
