A completely sold-out venue, a 40.000 Dollar purse, 27 international BMX and MTB top riders and a whole lot of punk rock: That's the resumée of the T-Mobile Playgrounds 2010 in Duisburg. BMX World Champion Anthony Napolitan's breathtaking first run in the finals secured his win. In between competition rounds, the crowd was able to release the built up energy during live shows by Sum 41 and AFI. The grand finale came with punkrock-institution Bad Religion. It couldn't have been any better: The kick-off to the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds amazed both 4.200 fans and the organizers.
“15 years ago I saw Bad Religion at the Air & Style, which brought me to action sports. Now, they're live on stage at the 10th edition of the T-Mobile Playgrounds. They're celebrating their 30th anniversary this year — the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds reaching the same age, that's my wish.” states
Lars-Oliver Vogt, CEO of Hamburg based Nice Productions.
In the BMX Dirt Jump finals, last year's winner
Rob Darden (USA)

failed to defend his title against the trickery of
Patrick Guimez (FRA),
Ryan Guettler (AUS) and his fellow American
Anthony Napolitan. 23-year-old BMX Dirt Jump World Champion Napolitan delivered a flawless first run with a Backflip Turndown, a No-Handed Frontflip, and a mindblowing 360° Triple Tailwhip; his score remained untouched, earning him the T-Mobile Playgrounds top-spot in 2010.
The 360° Contest gave the riders the opportunity to dig deep into their repertoires.
Anthony Napolitan got himself two first places (and an extra Xbox 360) by winning the BMX edition with a 360° Indian Seatgrab.

The festival-size stage made sure the audience got some healthy bowel movement as well. Opening up were Sum 41; they haven't been on German stages during the last two years, and they celebrated their return by pogo-ing with the masses, who gratefully joined in on the fun. Alternative rockers AFI — and especially the mighty voice of front man
Davey Havok — got the crowd fired up for the action finals, before Bad Religion delivered the grand closing. These punk pioneers clearly showed that over three decades of punk rock, they have lost nothing of their ability to have a festival burst out in sweat and flailing arms and legs from the very first minute of their show. Classics like “21st Century Boy” and “Punk Rock Song” had everyone in smiles and singing along. The best proof of the fact that punk rock keeps you young! Die-hard fans and those who didn't get a ticket to the event will be happy to hear that Sport1 (DSF) broadcasts the highlights of the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds on May 8th, 11:45am CET. TV NRW broadcasts on May 13th, 6:15pm CET.
