In BMX vert, Kagy won the event, ending Jamie Bestwick's season-opening AST Dew Tour winning streak at two. The 29-year-old Kagy, from Gilroy, Calif., earned 95.00 on his final run, which included a flatspin 540 double tailwhip and thrust him into first place. Bestwick, the only rider remaining, fell in his run to finish second at 94.17. Australia's Steven McCann finished third at 91.50. "The top of the podium is always your goal coming into a competition," Kagy said. "The first two events I was in second place behind Jamie. There was only one place for me to go and that's ahead of him."
