Report: Italian BMX Freestyle Park National Championships. By Tommaso Vian

The BMX Freestyle national championships took place in Roncade, in the awesome setting of H-Farm, an international school and university campus. For some years now, the park built by Hurricanes has been the national Olympic center for this discipline. Back competing for the tricolor jersey, worn 4 times by the everlasting Alessandro Barbero in the last 5 years and only in 2021 by Francesco Mongillo.

The boys have grown a lot, thanks to the guidance of CT Ventura and the Olympic center built for them, when I arrive on site I find my long-time friends, with only Guilherme Henrique Paloschi a new face for me.

Guilherme, with a street style, doesn't show all his skills and unfortunately remains out of the final, whose starting order is decided by qualifying.

In the final we finally see what the athletes have prepared, showing all the lines and bangers tried and tried again in the last months.

Christian Ceresato, with his unique style, has fun and does his best, finishing with a score of 61.33.

Mattia Cazzola, for a couple of years in the national team but in his first participation in the championship due to last year's injury, shows why he was chosen: nice flow, variety and uniqueness of tricks. Closes with 68.00.
Christian Falvo shows off an enormous amplitude as usual and a new frontflip-whip taking home 71.00 points, while Gabriele Pala with his fast-hand launch an impressive number of barspin and in all possible combos, combos that earn him 74.00 points.

Vittorio Galli crash in the first run on a 360 triple whip and backs out of the park supported and limping. Never tamed, he returns for the second run landing the trick and taking home a score of 75.00 which classifies him just off the podium.

Podium in which we find Mongillo in third place with 77.33, Francesco closes exactly the run he had told me and leaves the final run with a beautiful smile on his face, knowing that he did his best, especially after returning from an ankle operation.

In second place the defending Italian champion Alessandro Barbero that is forced to abdicate because of a slightly sketchy 360 triple whip in the first run and a crash on an Italian Job in the second. Closes with 81.33 points.

In first place, crowns one of his goals and 2023 Italian champion Elia Benetton who doesn’t miss the opportunity to take full advantage of one of Barbero's very rare mistakes in competition.

Unlike the last championship held here, Elia manages to close both of his runs showing some good transfers, a double backflip and some backflip and flair combos, making good use of his knowledge of the park. Elia win with a score of 84.33
