The editorial is supposed to be a personal note from the editor. This month I'm going to take it really personal and talk about our son Philip who just turned 6 months. Having a kid is a big step. Responsibility changes and you can't just go out for a ride any longer. The boy needs to be taken care of and either Wendy or I have to stay home to baby sit. But the babysitting is a lot of fun too especially when the baby is healthy and smiles all the time.
What will the future bring for Philip? We don't know. He might become a computer geek, he might like music so much he wants to start his own band, maybe he'll join the boy scouts (don't think so!) or likes horseback riding (no thank you).
Philip already has 3 bikes. A toy bike, a wooden 4-wheeler and a bike made of wood. Haro promised a 12" bike but we're waiting for the new models to come in. Philip has paid several visits at uncle Paul's Boutique to check out all the rad BMX bikes. Looks like the poor fella has no choice. Whatever he wants to do, he has to learn how to ride a bike at one point. The sooner the better if you ask me. The day we'll show up at the BMX track together will be a good one but I don't want to get my hopes up too much. He might like inline skating better (no, that's out of the question) or wants to be the computer game king.
We'll see what the future brings. It looks like more BMX-ers around the globe have made the step and are enjoying having a little kid around the house. Congratulations to FATBMX webmaster Jos and Wendy on the birth of their daughter Anne, high 5 to Mark Losey on their son, old school low-5 to Maurice Meyer on the birth of Isaac, what-up to Nathan Jumelin, the Desolneux', Ayres Jr., little MacDonald, baby Luden, Tony Dorsch, Sebastian Ferre, the Hoffman posse and those I forgot. I'm sure there's more BMX babies out there.
Enjoy the May issue of FATBMX with flatland from the RedBull Circle of Balance in Germany, the Bike 04 event in the UK, another Biz pin-up, a profile on Canada's Travis Collier, some MX racing in the BMX racing section, the Roots contest from Florida, new media reviews, a refreshed Boekel spot check and all the latest gossip in BMX land in the FATBMX news section.
I'll see you at the next event, with the stroller or not.
