WHISTLER, BC, June 13 Red Bull Elevation, the world's most progressive BMX dirt-jumping competition, returns to Whistler Mountain on July 1, for a Canada Day blow-out that skips the fireworks but promises its own brand of high-flying entertainment. Red Bull Elevation skyrocketed onto the BMX scene in 2005, when it revolutionized the sport by bringing dirt-jumping back to the trails, Ryan Nyquist back to the podium, and James Foster back to the future with his landing of the first-ever triple tail-whip. This year, BMX icon
Jay Miron will again apply his decades of experience to create an even more stunning and immense course, answering the call of the world's best riders to go even bigger and faster.
"Last year we raised the bar on every previously held competition. This year, we're raising it on ourselves. Believe it or not - the riders actually want bigger jumps," says
Miron.
"So let's give the riders what the riders want. Honestly, these guys are going to come as close to flying as anyone's ever come on a bike."

Ripping the course will be the strongest field ever compiled for a dirt-jumping contest, an invitation-only list of 40 riders that includes
Corey Bohan and
Luke Parslow of Australia, Americans
Ryan Nyquist and
Cory Nastazio, World Dirt Jumping Champion
Kye Forte of Great Britain, and rising two-sport motocross star
Dusty Klatt of Canada. Adds
Miron:
"I've said that I'd never do an invite-only competition, but after the success in 05, we didn't have a choice. This event is just too hardcore to have anyone there but the very best riders in the world. We're talking about the highest level of riding with Red Bull Elevation."
So far, of those riders invited, none has refused their spot. From the UK to Australia, from France to Argentina, Red Bull Elevation will represent the world's finest international talent.
"I think that after people saw the event and last year's footage, they realized Elevation was no joke. It was just a whole different level of contest," says
Nyquist.
"I would be happy if Elevation was the same as last year - that course and that experience. But with what Red Bull does and what Jay does, I doubt that's going to happen."
If last year's course was huge, this year's is utterly massive. Jumps will be larger across the board, with the most substantial an enormous 40-footer, and the third largest jump bigger than any in 2005. In between, the course will include every element of trail riding, from transfers to rhythm sections to showtime booters. To accomplish the build, more than 60 truckloads of custom dirt will be delivered to Whistler Mountain. The riders will compete for their share of the $30,000 prize purse.
A panel of veteran judges, including
Ryan "Biz" Jordan,
Matt Beringer, and
Dave Osato will evaluate riders on height, style, smoothness and tricks. The competition begins with practice on Thursday, June 29, qualifying on Friday (reducing the field from 40 to 20 riders) and concludes with the finals on Saturday, July 1.
