Mongoose Bikes today announced that they will host the first ever Mongoose Jam this summer. Since its inception in 1974, Mongoose has always been an innovator in BMX, continually setting new standards and pushing the boundaries of the sport. With the Mongoose Jam, they continue to bring their authentic blend of camaraderie and grit to one of the best-known stages in BMX at Woodward West in Tehachapi, Ca., just two hours from Los Angeles.
This BMX-only event, which will take place July 25 – 27, will feature competition among five teams, each headed by one of Mongoose’s pro riders. The Mongoose team captains will choose a group of four pro BMX athletes, and will draft one amateur rider from the AmateurAudition open to all Woodward campers, to compete in Park, Dirt and Street contests. Each team will select two riders to compete in each discipline. Teams will earn points according to their placement in each contest to choose the overall Mongoose Jam first place team.
“We’re extremely excited to host the first annual Mongoose Jam,” said Dave Duecker, Brand Director, Mongoose. “Mongoose is all about the roots and heritage of BMX. We feel that by hosting an event at Camp Woodward, the sport’s lifeblood —young, aspiring BMX riders— will not only have the opportunity to watch some of the best riders in the world compete, they will also be given the chance to directly engage with their role models.”
The Mongoose Jam’s unique format brings a focus to the best of BMX and Mongoose. The biggest names in BMX and Mongoose riders, Greg Illingworth, Steve McCann, Paul Ryan, Ben Wallace and Cam White, will lead the teams. They’ll compete alongside their friends and fellow professionals on progressive setups at Woodward West. Confirmed riders for the Mongoose Jam include: Kyle Baldock, Billy Beddow, Maxime Charveron, Mike “Huckler” Clark, Scotty Cranmer, Daniel Dhers, TJ Ellis, Jack Fahey, Brian Kachinsky, Connor Lodes, Harry Main, Corey Nastazio, Christian Rigal, Pete Sawyer, Jeremiah Smith, and Gary Young.
The team event allows for a laid-back vibe that encourages riders to work together to come out on top with the overall win. The inclusion of a Woodward camper in competition through the amateur draft provides an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an up-and-coming rider to learn from their sport’s best role models. Woodward West shares Mongoose’s commitment to building the future of BMX making Woodward West the perfect for location for the inaugural Mongoose Jam.
“The Mongoose Jam is such an exciting event to be a part of,” said Mongoose Pro Rider Steve McCann. “The format allows riders with pro experience to mentor the campers and show them the ropes of BMX competition, and share the fun of what riding BMX with your friends is all about.”
Mongoose is partnering with Alli Sports, a division of the NBC Sports Group, to livestream all of the events and bring the Mongoose Jam to a global audience.
