Jamie Bestwick’s domination continued today as he took the gold medal once again in BMX Vert at X Games Barcelona 2013. It’s an incredible eighth-straight gold in the event, an X Games record. His Monster Energy teammate Vince Byron took the bronze, making for two Monster Energy riders on the podium. Since he began competing at X in 1996, Bestwick has been a force to be reckoned with on the vert ramp. He took his first gold in 2000 and began his dominant winning streak in 2007, winning every event since them. He’s won more consecutive gold medals than anyone in X Games history.
His tricks and runs today were trademark huge, high, and smooth—they included opposite turndown flairs, stylish fastplant flairs, big downside tailwhips, and his seatgrab 540 nac nac.
“To win eight in a row is a true testament to how much I like riding my bike for the fans around the world. You just can’t stop me from riding,” said Bestwick afterwards.
“This was one of the best contests I’ve been to in a long time, and I got the job done.” Bestwick’s Monster Energy teammate
Byron also represented well. An absolute beast on the ramp, he muscled his way through his runs, bagging the bronze. Afterwards he said,
“I am so stoked to be here. The atmosphere was just right and everyone was going huge. Even though I didn’t land my trick and missed the gold, I’m riding my bike for a living and can’t complain!”
