For 30 years now, the best BMX riders in the world have met in the Cologne Jugendpark to compete for titles and trophies. The world‘s oldest and also most important BMX competition is celebrating its big birthday in July 2014. Organizers expect about 250 BMXers from 38 nations, as well as more than 10,000 fans and birthday guests. Only a few more days: From July 18 to 20, Cologne will once again be the pilgrimage site for the international BMC scene. About 250 pros and amateurs from 38 nations will come to the Jugendpark at theZoo Bridge near Köln-Mülheim, to show what they can do in the disciplines Dirt, SuperBowl and Flatland. The best German riders will go up against the top stars of the international scene.
The German formation will be led by German pros
Paul Thölen (Dirt and SuperBowl),
Michael Meisel (Dirt) and
Kevin Nikulski (Flatland). As in the previous years, the national heroes will face the top riders from around the world. For instance, the SuperBowl
will see top stars
Daniel Dhers (Venezuela),
Harry Main
(England)
Michael Beran (Czech Republic),
Mark Webb (England),
Daniel Wedemeijer (Netherlands),
Brian Santos (Brazil) and
Todd Meyn (Australia).
In Flatland, co-favortie
Kevin Nikulski will meet
Adam Kun (Hungary),
Alex Jumlin (France),
Shintaro Misawa (Japan) and
Bert Ribul (Estonia). And in the Dirt discipline, held under the Zoo Bridge, BMX fans can expect breath-taking jumps and tricks from international stars like
Nick Bruce (USA),
Patrick Guimez (France),
Danny Josa (Hungary) and
Brandon Loupos (Australia).
Cologne has a long BMX tradition and we are proud of the world‘s best BMX riders,“ said Cologne organizer Stephan Prantl.
„Again this year, thousands of fans will make the pilgrimage to Cologne, to see the international top stars live. On this weekend, our home town is the world-wide middlepoint of BMX!“ The competition has a new name, with organizers orienting away from the awarding of world champion titles and reducing the number of competition disciplines. The decision was made to concentrate from now on on three freestyle discilplines. In 2014 the focus will be on Flatland, Dirt and SuperBowl.
The organization team around Stephan Prantl and Niklas Pastor is planning not only big changes but also a big party with surprises – including a film about 30 years of BMX Freestyle in Cologne.
