season for Skateboarding, BMX and FMX pros and marks the fifth year that LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc (LG Mobile Phones) has sponsored the event. The pros qualify to compete at the World Championships based on their results from a series of 22 qualifier events around the world. $650,000 is up for grabs – the largest per-sport prize money in action sports history.
In addition, the event will feature a lineup of national recording artists performing live each day. Ludacris will perform live on Saturday, Nov. 10th and on Sunday, Nov. 11th, Cartel will bring its pop-infused brand of alternative rock to the Reunion Arena crowd. The headline act for Friday, Nov. 9th and additional afternoon performances for the weekend are yet to be announced.
The LG Action Sports Championships is open to all athletes from around the world with entry based solely on their collective performances and rankings from the entire season.
Athletes from 20 countries will compete at the event, including a host of X Games and World Champions. Some of the industry’s superstars expected to participate include Dave Mirra (USA), Ryan Nyquist (USA), Jamie Bestwick (UK), Simon Tabron (UK), Ryan Guettler (AUS), Kevin Robinson (USA), Chad Kagy (USA), and Daniel Dhers (VEN). After years of rapid growth, this year’s LG Action Sports Championships will feature the largest television coverage of any event in action sports history, with three hours of national television coverage on CBS, sixteen hours on Spike TV and twenty-five hours on Fuel TV. Globally, the event will be seen in 180 countries on 22 networks that reach more than 1.2 billion viewers. The CBS broadcasts will air on Sunday, November 18, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM (EST) immediately following NFL Football, on Saturday, December 15 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM (EST) and on Saturday, December 22 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM (EST). The Spike TV broadcasts will air two hours weekly from December 9 – February 1. In addition, ticket holders will be treated to live concerts from four top bands. Other weekend entertainment includes freestyle motocross exhibitions, video games, a technology center, Internet stations, pro autograph signings and a festival village. The LG Action Sports Championships will also play host to amateur competition in skateboarding and inline skating, with the top finishers qualifying for the 2008 pro circuit.
Advance tickets cost just $15 per session with discounts for multiple sessions. Tickets are available starting Friday, September 28 via all Ticketmaster outlets, online at Ticketmaster.com and at the American Airlines Center box office (214-665-4797). Tickets will also be available at Reunion Arena box office on the days of the event.
