- Renewal of the UCI Athletes’ Commission for the 2025-2029 period -

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that the composition of its Athletes' Commission will be renewed in 2025. The new members will be elected by their peers at the 2025 UCI World Championships for the different cycling disciplines represented on the commission. Since 2017, the commission has been made up of 20 members, with each of the included disciplines BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, road, track, mountain bike cross-country, mountain bike downhill, para-cycling, cyclo-cross, trials and indoor cycling – represented by two riders (one man and one woman).

The members will be elected for a term of four years, which will take effect at the 2025 UCI Elective Congress, to be held in conjunction with the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali (Rwanda), or at the time of their election for those who are elected after the event in Kigali. The term for all members will end at the following Elective Congress, on the occasion of the 2029 UCI Road World Championships in Denmark.

The President of the UCI Athletes' Commission, a position currently held by Katerina Nash (Czechia), the female representative for cyclo-cross, is elected by the members of the commission and sits on the UCI Management Committee, the executive body of our International Federation, which operates under the authority of the Congress.

The commission has an advisory role which enables it to submit proposals to the UCI Management

Committee. Its main areas of activity are the improvement of conditions for the practice of high-level sport, the protection of athletes in all its forms, the promotion of ethics and sportsmanship, the establishment of a direct link with the UCI's decision-making bodies, the information for athletes about significant regulatory changes and guidance for athletes after their sporting retirement.

During the 2021-2024 period, the commission made its voice heard during discussions on themes that resulted in a number of achievements. In particular, it was responsible for drawing up the Riders' Charter of Rights and Responsibilities. This document clearly sets out the rights of riders as UCI licence-holders and members of the cycling community, as well as the responsibilities they assume in this capacity to promote the values of cycling and protect the integrity of the sport. Inspired by the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration and adopted by the UCI Management Committee in June 2024, the Riders' Charter of Rights and Responsibilities is sent to athletes by their National Federation with their licence when it is issued or renewed.

The members of the UCI Athletes' Commission have also contributed to the development of the regulations and calendars for the various disciplines in their respective commissions, as the two athletes representing a discipline on the UCI Athletes’ Commission are also members of that discipline’s commission as riders’ representatives.

Candidates for the UCI Athletes' Commission must be active or recently retired, at least 18 years old, fluent in English and/or French, and not have been sanctioned for a violation of the UCI Anti-Doping Regulations. The representatives of a discipline are elected by their peers at the UCI World Championships of the discipline concerned. Only athletes taking part in the UCI World Championships may vote.

The renewal of the UCI Athletes' Commission will begin with that of the cyclo-cross representatives, who will be elected at the 2025 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships being held on 1-2 February in Liévin, France. The UCI Athletes' Commission renewal process will end with the election of its President, which will take place during the first meeting of the newly-composed commission, between November and December 2025.
