NEW YORK – September, 2005 –
The Dew Action Sports Tour, the first-ever, season-long professional multi-sport tour in action sports, today announced the winner of the PlayStation® Trick of the Week Award from the Toyota Challenge. Voting began after competitions at the Dew Action Sports Tour’s Toyota Challenge ended Sunday, September 11. Fans were able to view video clips and vote online at www.dewactionsportstour.com until Sunday, September 11.
Fans selected
Ryan Guettler as the PlayStation Trick of the Week winner for the second consecutive event after he performed a front flip during BMX Dirt Finals. Even more spectacular is that Guettler came back from a hard fall in athlete introductions to win that very contest. Guettler leads the Dew Cup points standings in BMX Dirt and BMX Park. His front flip earned him the PlayStation Trick of the Week award after the Tour’s third stop, the Vans® Invitational, in Portland, Ore. this past August.
“It’s amazing to win the Trick of the Week contest for the second time,â€? said Guettler.
“Whoever is out there voting for me is super supportive and that’s the cool thing. I can’t thank them enough.â€?
Guettler was up against stiff competition for the PlayStation Trick of the Week Award. BMX Vert competitor Jamie Bestwick was nominated for a flair downside whip that he completed during Vert Finals. BMX Park winner Dave Mirra was nominated for Trick of the Week after he executed a backflip tailwhip during Park Finals. Pierre-Luc Gagnon completed a Nollie Heel during his winning run in Skate Vert Finals. Jeremy Stenberg’s run in Freestyle Motocross Finals included an impressive backflip to side-saddle can-can lander. In the end, the online community chose Guettler’s trick as the best.
Guettler wins $5,000 and his trick will compete for the PlayStation® Trick of the Year versus other Trick of the Week winners from other Dew Action Sports Tour events, including Scotty Cranmer and Mike Laird, as well as Guettler’s own front flip from the Vans® Invitational. Polls will be open throughout the week of the upcoming PlayStation® Pro, Sunday, October 9 - Saturday, October 15, when online voters will choose the PlayStation Trick of the Year winner from the four PlayStation Trick of the Week winners. The winner will be announced during the Dew Action Sports Tour NBC broadcast on Sunday, October 16. This athlete will take home $10,000 in cash as well as other PlayStation® prizes.
