Newquay, August, 2006 The Rip Curl Boardmasters 2006: Britain’s biggest lifestyle festival of the year took place last weekend in Newquay, with BMX, Surf, Skateboard and Freestyle Motocross contests and demo’s and a two night, sold out Music Festival. The Ripcurl Boardmasters played host to the third and final stop of The Braun cruZer Tour 2006 on the biggest mobile spine ramp in the world. Braun cruZer Tour Spine Contest: The exposed Newquay coast blew a cold, harsh breeze at the 12 BMX cruZer Tour Finalists, but the impressive location of the festival site, with it’s close proximity to the ocean meant that the riders forgot the wind and pushed to ride even harder and higher. With top pro riders like Mark Webb, Phil Aller, Mike Miller and of course Ben Wallace the final was destined to be an explosive contest. In the first qualifying runs on Friday evening the audience were totally stoked as the riders cracked the ramp with tricks like “540 barspin” or “540 lookback airs”. Everyone was really looking forward to seeing the final on Saturday and they weren’t disappointed. On the Saturday final runs, Phil Aller pulled out his “fufanu on the backrail” and a “360 tiretap to footjam nosepick”. 

August, 2006 - New York, N.Y - The Dew Action Sports Tour, the pro tour of action sports, makes the third stop of its second season with the Vans® Invitational, August 17-20, at Portland's Rose Quarter. The five-city tour opened in Louisville in June and also includes stops in Denver, San Jose and Orlando. Skateboarder Shaun White, BMX athlete Jamie Bestwick, and FMX competitor Travis Pastrana are among the athletes who will be in Portland to compete for the Dew Cup, awarded at season's end to the athlete with the highest number of points in each of the six combined disciplines of skateboarding, BMX, and freestyle motocross. The Tour's inaugural season champions include Ryan Sheckler (Skateboard Park), Bucky Lasek (Skateboard Vert), Kenny Bartram (Freestyle Motocross), Jamie Bestwick (BMX Vert) and Ryan Guettler (BMX Park and BMX Dirt). Each Dew Cup winner received a portion of the $1 million year-end bonus and returns for the 2006 season.

You heard it right Cory is on the team! It's been almost 10 years since Cory moved to California and I am proud to say he is officially part of the family. After coming in for Slams, Pitchforks and Rednecks for so long, Cory is no stranger to the building having him on the team seems really natural. Since I first saw him ride at Sheep in '97 he's always been one of my favorite riders. And going on Road Fools with him was hilarious! I've always liked Cory and his riding is more outrageous than ever right now.

Okay, you're having a brother and he rides too. That's cool. Now figure you have two brothers and the both ride. That's even better. What if all three are actually good enough to all enter Pro Dirt at a major BMX dirt contest? We shot a photo of Leo Forte, Kye Forte and Toby Forte at the BMX Masters in Cologne. All three of them were doing lookbacks over this same hip. We're running a new poll on FATBMX to find out who you think has the best lookback in the Forte family. The three brothers just won all three Style awards at the Rebel Jam in Dirt. Before you vote for their lookback, watch this Empire of Dirt movie.

Nashville Pussy played at the Red Bull Elevation contest in Vancouver, Canada. They were pure rock 'n roll and gave it all they got. After the concert it was off to the next party and before I knew it we were walking the Whistler streets with the band. We started talking and one of the band members' dad is actually from The Netherlands.  Even better, they were going to do some shows in Holland soon. I asked them to send me a mail with the locations because I wanted to see the band play again.

I did receive an e-mail from Ruyter Suys , the guitar chick from the band. They were actually going to play 5 minutes from my place in Lierop. A few e-mails later Paul and I were on the list for the Nirwana tuinfeesten. Once again they were rocking hard, even after spending a few days in Amsterdam with no sleep. Whatever gets them going, make sure to go see them next time you have the chance.

The FAT-JAM is happening next week. Maybe you can help spread the word as we don't know how to do that. The FAT-JAM will be low-key as you're used from us. If that is your style, we will see you on Saturday. You're welcome to bring your own booze and your own barbeque and make sure you bring your friends too. There is no time schedule so even to slackers will make it on time. The music will be plugged in around one o' clock on Saturday 19 August so take that as the official opening of the FAT-JAM. Bring your favorite CD's if you want, or maybe someone has one of those i-pods with some good shit on it that we can plug in. Don't expect Mat Hoffman, Todd Lyons or Jay Miron to be here this year. Those times have long gone. If you want to ride your bike on some small trails, you have all day to master the doubles. There will be no one sending you off because you don't have the right wristband or did not register. 

The Chenga 2 BMX Contest is Saturday August 19th. Practice and registration will begin around 10AM and the contest will start around 1PM. Entry Fees are $25 for Beginner & Expert, and $50 for Pro. Everyone must have a signed and notarized park waiver on file to enter, they can be downloaded from www.chenga.cc.
