Call him the veteran, or just the most experienced rider out there. But never count him out. The BMX legend continues to ride because he loves it and because he knows he still has it. 2017 is in the books. Bring on 2018.
My 2017: Ryan Nyquist
Hometown: Wilmington, NC. USA.
Sponsors: Haro Bikes, Rockstar, Bell, Vans, CTI Knee Braces
Do you remember the first BMX event you went to this year and how did it go?
Ryan Nyquist: Yes it was Simple Session and it didn’t go that well. Hahaha! A couple small slip ups and I didn’t qualify for finals. Made for a short weekend.
How many weekends/days were you away from home and at a BMX jam/contest or on tour?
Ryan Nyquist: A lot. Maybe 100-150. That’s a lot for me.
What was the best event you went to this year that gets your vote?
Ryan Nyquist: The Vans BMX Pro Cup in Australia was so rad! The vibe and the crowd were amazing!
What contest placing were you stoked on this year?
Ryan Nyquist: This year I wasn’t super focused on placing well. I was more into making my own goals
The United States of America officially has a freestyle BMX team. Yesterday in Colorado Springs at The Olympic Training Center, USA Cycling named the following riders as members of their national team - Nick Bruce Colton Walker Daniel Sandoval Pat Casey Justin Dowell Hannah Roberts Angie Marino Cory Coffey Along with naming the team, the athletes (and I, for some reason) got to explore the amenities The Olympic Training Center had to offer. From nutritionists to psychologists to masseuses - and much, much more - the riders have access to countless tools to maximize their abilities.

Do you remember the first BMX event you went to this year and how did it go?
My 2017. Pat Casey rides different. And in Freestyle, different is good. His fakie stuff is so hard which is also a reason you don't see it happen often in contests. Watching Pat ride practice is one of my favourite things. He treats the course like a Supercross MX track and finds a take-off where he can send it sideways every time. With all the traveling, his family and his vlog, Pat has his hands full. Never a dull moment.

My 2017. With only two flat tires in 2017 it gives an indication of how smooth Jeremy Malott really is. Being on the road riding BMX with his mates is what Jeremy lives for. 2017 was good. How good? Read below as he gives some feedback on his special year.

Do you remember the first BMX event you went to this year and how did it go?
Jeremy Malott: The first event I went to this year was the Triples event in Anaheim and it was actually my first time ever riding dirt so it was awesome to adapt to it, I’m looking forward to the events next year!
How many weekends/days were you away from home and at a BMX jam/contest or on tour?
Jeremy Malott: I was away at least 2 times every month and the trips lasted about a week or so each so I was definitely on the go!
