difficult it is to make a main at a bigger race these days?
David Herman: Many things have changed since I turned pro in 2007. The training aspect has become such an important element in the life of a competitive Elite rider. Not only do you have to prepare yourself physically but you need to come into a big race mentally prepared. It seems like most of the same guys are in the main and on the podium so mentally you have to figure that out within yourself to how you're going to make it happen which can be tough at times. I believe with sponsor support, a solid training program, and a belief system you can make it happen.
You made it to the USA World Cup team. Can you explain how much easier it is for you now that you’re part of this program?
David Herman: Being a part of the team is great. I'm really happy with how things are going right now and I feel like the USA program in general is heading in the right direction. We are all working together and it seems to be helping. It's nice not having to worry about much when traveling, everything always seems to go according to plan which makes our week that much less stressful.
Do you feel pressure to do well now that you were chosen as one of the few riders to represent the USA at the World Cups?
David Herman: As of right now not at all. I need to prove to myself first that I'm capable of producing good results at the World Cups like I have in the past and I don't care what jersey I have on. My mindset going into South Africa will be racing for myself. At the same time I know team USA will benefit from that.
Do you like big starting hills and bigger jumps?
David Herman: Yes I like both.
How often do you get to ride a Supercross BMX track?
David Herman: It's always different but for the most part I'm always able to ride a week or two before we go to any World Cup. Here and there I make it out to Chula Vista for an extra week at a time.
Are you much of a show-off on the track or do you like to keep it strictly business?
David Herman: I think I'm pretty much business now days. Most would say I was a pretty stylish rider when I was younger but I think those days are behind me. What ever style I have out there just comes natural.
What part of BMX is the most fun to you?
David Herman: I love the competition and traveling the world.
Who do you like to ride with most of the time?
David Herman: If we are at the OTC my favorite person to ride with would be dR. I think we push each other. When I'm at home I just like riding at my local track Dacono Bmx. It's fun watching the younger riders out there mature.
Who’s a good laugh in the pits?
David Herman: Nic Long, KY, dR, Meyers, Deak Brown
Do you follow BMX racing via the internet to see what the race results are in other continents for instance?
David Herman: I see most all of the results but I would say I'm less interested in all that stuff then I was a few years ago.
What the race you’re looking forward to the most at the moment?
David Herman: I'm looking forward to what ever the next race is on the schedule, South Africa
Any last words/thank you’s?
David Herman: Thanks to all my sponsors and everyone who supports me. Thanks to the fans and everyone out there who believes in me. See you at the races.
