I went to London well prepared and felt strong. In my opinion the Olympic track wasn’t ready for this Olympic test event, but eventual there was some good racing and a lot of fans showed up! Unfortunately I went out in the quarterfinal by a stupid mistake… Read the hole story below.
When I did my track walk before practice on Thursday I didn’t had an Olympic feeling like I expected. 4 years ago I had a very strong Olympic feeling during the test event in Beijing. This time I didn’t, because the track wasn’t finish the way it should be and during practice I couldn’t find the flow to ride the track like I want to. I felt bad and didn’t like the track very much.
Practice on Friday went way better, but I still couldn’t find the speed on the first straight. Somehow the starting hill felt weird and I didn’t like the first straight, because each jump had so many different lips. In time-trial I rode one of my worst laps ever, although my split time was okay. Because of the head wind on the third straight, I was just able to clear
the jumps, but I lost too much speed! With a 19th place in time-trial I felt very disappointed, because this was my first time not riding the super final.

During warm-up before the race on Saturday it suddenly starts raining, so practice and racing was postponed till the weather cleared up. After a few hours delay, I was able to do 3 warm-up laps and eventually we started racing. Because we had so much delay, we had a knock out race right away instead of 3 qualify heats.
I got a great start in my 1/8 final, but the French guy André got the inside line and passed me into turn one. From there I rode safe and got 2nd. When I was on the gate for my quarterfinal, someone crashed during one heat earlier. So I unclipped my pedals because I saw the medics running with a stretcher. Suddenly the starter pressed the button to start the gate without saying anything. I had to be really quick to get ready, but I wasn’t 100% focused and got a bad start. In turn one I tried to make a high-low move, but because of that move I lost too much speed. After that I couldn’t pass anyone and got 6th place. You can imaging I felt really frustrated and disappointed!
For me it was a weekend where I learned some things I can use in the future. Now I need to get myself together and get some good results.
Next race will be European round 1&2 in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands next week. It’s the start of the European season 2012.
